At FITUR, Travel2latam spoke with Luz del Carmen Ortiz Hernández, Manager of Hotels, Sales and Marketing of Tourist Services at Grupo Mundo Maya, who explained how the company seeks to position its brand beyond the borders of Mexico and capture the European market by showing that the country offers much more than traditional sun and beach destinations.
What does it mean for Grupo Mundo Maya to participate in an international fair like FITUR?
Participating in a trade fair of this magnitude is key for us because it allows us to take the Grupo Mundo Maya brand beyond Mexico's borders. FITUR is a global platform where we can showcase everything that southeastern Mexico has to offer and connect directly with markets that are not yet fully familiar with our destinations.
What are your objectives in participating in this fair, and what does the European market represent for you?
Our main goal is to attract European tourism, especially from Spain, France, and Germany. We want these travelers to discover that Mexico is not just Cancún, but that there are other destinations with enormous natural, cultural, and historical richness, and that's why we're here promoting and positioning our offerings.
What experiences or products are you prioritizing within the Mundo Maya Corridor?
We have seven hotels located in four states in southeastern Mexico and we work with tour packages tailored to each client's needs. These include airfare, ground transportation, meals, lodging, and activities, so travelers have everything organized from arrival and can fully enjoy their vacation without worrying about logistics.
What is the connectivity like to reach the Mayan World from other countries, especially from Europe?
Travelers can fly from Madrid to Mexico City and from there take a flight to destinations such as Tulum, Campeche, Mérida, Palenque, or Chetumal, and then travel by land to our hotels. They can also enter through Cancún, and we now also have access to Tulum International Airport, which receives some European flights, making it easier to visit all seven hotels in approximately 15 days.
What role do travel agents and tour operators play in marketing the tour?
They play a fundamental role. They are our main intermediaries with the European market and the ones who bring groups, families, and tour operators to our hotels. Without them, it wouldn't be possible to position or sell the destination effectively.
What promotional initiatives do you have planned for 2026?
We have promotions throughout the year. In addition, Mexico will be hosting the World Cup, which will generate a large influx of visitors, so we will be launching special offers for Easter, summer vacation, and other periods, combining attendance at sporting events with nature and beach experiences in the southeast of the country.
What new products are they presenting at FITUR?
At FITUR, we're showcasing off-season packages and promotions with discounts ranging from 15% to 50%. We're also hosting promotional events at our booth with giveaways and souvenirs to introduce more people to the Grupo Mundo Maya brand and encourage them to visit Mexico on their next trip.
