Royal Caribbean International officially began construction of its fifth Icon-class ship with the traditional steel-cutting ceremony at the Meyer Turku shipyard in Turku, Finland. This milestone marks the physical start of production on a new vessel that will be part of one of the company's most ambitious series.
With this first step, a multi-year process begins in which design, naval engineering and architecture teams will work together to shape a comprehensive vacation experience, designed especially for family and leisure trips.
The new ship will join the Icon-class fleet, which already has several ships in operation and others under construction. These include the Legend of the Seas, scheduled to debut in Europe in 2026, and another ship that will enter service in 2027. The company also holds options to develop future vessels within this same class.
Although specific details about the name or features of the fifth ship have not yet been revealed, Royal Caribbean has indicated that it will continue with the concept that defines the Icon class, combining large-scale attractions, resort-style experiences, and offerings designed for different types of travelers.
With more than five decades of history, Royal Caribbean is part of the Royal Caribbean Group and operates a fleet that travels to hundreds of destinations around the world, establishing itself as one of the main players in the global cruise industry.
