United Airlines has appointed Antonio de Toro to the expanded role of Regional Sales Manager for Portugal and Spain. Antonio de Toro brings over 28 years of experience to his new role, replacing José Carlos Ferreira.
Reporting to Guido Dias Araújo, Senior Regional Sales Manager for Europe at United Airlines, Antonio de Toro will be responsible for leading United's global sales strategy in Portugal and Spain. His appointment follows United's recent expansion in Portugal, with the launch of the airline's first direct flights from Faro and Madeira to New York/Newark in 2025, as well as the extension of its daily seasonal service between Porto and New York/Newark this year, starting more than a month earlier on February 22 and operating until November 30, 2026.
"With over 28 years of experience in the aviation industry, Antonio de Toro has been at the forefront of change and brings great strength and experience to our team as we build on our success in Portugal and Spain," said Guido Dias Araújo, United's senior regional sales manager for Europe. "Antonio has an impressive track record and a keen focus on business development. I know he will continue to work closely with the travel community while enhancing the United travel experience for all our customers."

Antonio de Toro began his career at United Airlines in 1998 as Sales Manager for Spain, where he developed a solid track record in sales management and strategic customer relations. With extensive experience in leadership roles, Antonio de Toro is also President of Visit USA-Spain, a non-profit organization that promotes tourism between Spain and the United States. He holds a Master's degree in Tax Law from IE Business School and a Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, International Business from Schiller International University. Antonio de Toro is fluent in English and Spanish, and is improving his Portuguese.
United has served Portugal since 1997 and currently offers daily year-round flights from Lisbon to New York/Newark, almost year-round daily service from Lisbon to Washington DC, and seasonal service from Porto, Faro, Madeira, and Ponta Delgada, Azores to New York/Newark. By summer 2026, United will operate up to 6 daily nonstop flights from Portugal to the U.S., offering more flights between Portugal and the U.S. than any other U.S. airline and remaining the only U.S. carrier to serve Faro, Madeira, and Ponta Delgada, Azores, from the United States.
