This year the event will take place from February 9th to 14th at the Barbados Beach Club, and will feature over 250 international participants, mainly from Canada and the United States. Established in October 1990, this annual Bridge tournament has become a benchmark in Barbados' sporting events calendar. The longevity of this tournament is a testament to the loyalty of its international audience and Barbados' ability to consistently provide a high-quality experience for visitors.
Speaking during the press conference on February 5th, the president of the Barbados Bridge League, Ms. Roglyn Hinds, reaffirmed Barbados' position as the chosen host of the annual tournament. Hinds stated that the island provides participants with an escape from the harsh winters, an opportunity to enjoy the warmth and beauty of this destination while competing in the Bridge tournament.
Consistent Visitation
This is the third consecutive year that the Sun, Sea and Slam tournament has attracted over 250 international visitors, with some extending their stay to enjoy the island for longer. The tournament remains popular in Canada, and this popularity can be attributed to Barbara Seagram, a Barbadian based in Canada, whose connections with international Bridge circles have helped drive consistent participation from this country.
The Director of Sports at Barbados Tourism Marketing Inc., Mr. Kamal Springer, noted that this type of consistency is rare, and highlighted Barbados' appeal as a destination of choice.
Demand is so high that Barbados Beach Club, one of the event's sponsors, has already sold out all reservations well before the 2026 edition. We also have initial indicators suggesting that the 2027 edition should also sell out completely.
Springer said, “Barbados is also strengthening its connections with the World Bridge Federation, and we hope to position the island to host even bigger bridge events in the future.”
Strong Events Calendar in 2026
Barbados' 2026 sports calendar continues to gain momentum. The Barbados Rally and Barbados Ninja Throwdown recorded record attendance in 2025 and are already showing growth for this year. The Barbados Open Water Swim, the Roger Boyce Classic, and the IFBB Professional Bodybuilding World Cup are also expanding, while the island prepares to welcome visitors from around the world for the Caribbean Premier League finals from September 16-20.
As Barbados continues to expand its presence in the global tourism market, the Sun, Sea and Slam tournament stands out as a celebration of camaraderie and hospitality. Sponsors are encouraged to get involved, as strong partnerships remain essential to sustaining events that reinforce Barbados' reputation as a world-class destination.
