The Secretary of Tourism of the Government of Mexico, Josefina Rodríguez Zamora, reported that, in December 2025 alone, Mexico received 10.13 million visitors, which represented an increase of 12.3 percent compared to the same month of 2024.

“December confirmed that 2025 was a very successful year for tourism in Mexico. We closed strong, with positive figures and a solid trend that allows us to look to the future with optimism,” he said.

The head of the Ministry of Tourism (Sectur) highlighted that the results achieved at the close of 2025 allow for projecting an even stronger 2026, within the framework of the World Cup year, in which Mexico will have an unprecedented international projection.

“2026 will be even better. We are entering the World Cup year with a strengthened, prepared, and competitive tourism sector, ready to welcome more visitors and show the world the grandeur and diversity of Mexico,” he stated.

He specified that, according to information from the International Travelers Surveys of the National Institute of Statistics and Geography (INEGI), in the last month of 2025, 5.22 million tourists arrived, 9 percent more, compared to the same period of the previous year.

He also reported that in December 2025, foreign exchange earnings from international visitors reached $3.772 billion, representing an increase of 1.9 percent compared to the previous year.

Rodríguez Zamora highlighted that the sector's good performance is the result of the joint effort of the entire tourism chain, made up of artisans, tour guides, hotel owners, service providers, traditional cooks, transporters, travel agents, local communities, as well as the commitment of the business sector.

These results reflect the boost to tourism promotion in accordance with President Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo's vision to consolidate the country as a global tourism power, through a comprehensive strategy that strengthens the Mexico brand, diversifies markets and promotes the balanced development of destinations.

He also acknowledged the inter-institutional work of the Mexican government, the coordination with state and municipal governments, and the ongoing collaboration with public and private organizations, which have allowed for the consolidation of a more solid, inclusive, and competitive tourism model.

“Tourism in Mexico is strong thanks to everyone who is part of this great value chain. Their daily work, their talent, and their commitment are the foundation of the results we are presenting today,” he stated.
