The number of Argentine tourists visiting the Dominican Republic grew by 62.3% in 2025, reaching a total of 442,088 visitors, according to the Dominican Republic Ministry of Tourism's annual report. With this performance, Argentina positioned itself as the third largest source market for the Dominican Republic, behind only the United States and Canada.

The increase represented 169,638 more travelers than in 2024, when 272,450 arrivals were recorded. The trend continued at the beginning of 2026, with an increase of nearly 10% in January compared to the same month of the previous year.

The growth occurred within a context of expanding outbound tourism from Argentina. According to data from the National Institute of Statistics and Censuses (INDEC), approximately 11.8 million Argentinians traveled abroad in 2025, compared to 8.3 million in 2024, representing an increase of over 42%. The improved exchange rate contributed to making international travel more affordable for consumers.

Rhina Olivares, director of the Dominican tourism office in Argentina, highlighted that the greater air connectivity and the diversity of tourist offerings explain the destination's positioning among the preferences of the local public.

Traveler profile

Argentine visitors stay an average of nine days. 57% travel with their families, while 16% are senior citizens, another 16% are adults without children, and 11% are adventure-oriented. More than half organize their trips independently, although 53% purchase packages that include airfare and accommodation.

During 2025, 965 flights operated between the two countries, representing an 83.1% increase compared to the previous year. The main cities of origin were Buenos Aires (40%), Córdoba (18%), Santa Fe (11%), and Mendoza (5%).

Among the most popular activities are the excursion to Saona Island (72%), snorkeling (16%), tours of the colonial zone (13%), visits to Catalina Island (12%) and buggy or 4x4 vehicle rides (9%).

Preferred destinations and connectivity

The main arrival point is Punta Cana, which handles 90% of arrivals from Argentina. Other destinations include Samaná, Santo Domingo, Puerto Plata, and La Romana. Meanwhile, Miches is beginning to gain prominence due to new hotel investments focused on sustainable tourism.

Air connectivity continues to expand. In 2025, Argentina surpassed 200,000 direct annual seats to the Caribbean nation for the first time, operated by Aerolíneas Argentinas and Arajet. This is further complemented by Copa Airlines' connection via Panama, which adds approximately 700,000 additional seats.

In December, Arajet inaugurated the direct route Córdoba–Punta Cana and plans new non-stop operations from Mendoza in May and Rosario in June 2026, expanding the offer without the need to go through Buenos Aires.

With greater flight availability, a consolidated hotel offering, and a sustained preference for the Caribbean, the Dominican Republic continues to strengthen its position among the most popular international destinations for Argentine travelers, boosting tourism and economic exchange between the two countries.
