The Central American Tourism Promotion Agency (CATA) and The Embassy of Nature formalized the Memorandum of Understanding that consolidates a strategic alliance that integrates conservation, innovation and international projection, positioning Central America as a benchmark in responsible tourism and sustainable destination management.
Recognized as one of the most biodiverse territories on the planet and a biological bridge between North and South America, Central America is moving forward with this initiative towards a tourism model that harmonizes the protection of natural heritage with territorial development and regional competitiveness.
The Memorandum contemplates collaboration in the identification and structuring of projects that link the conservation and restoration of ecosystems with the design of sustainable tourism products, as well as the improvement in the quality and resilience of destinations, the incorporation of environmental and social standards, and the strengthening of technical and institutional capacities.
During the signing ceremony, CATA's Secretary General, Boris Iraheta, emphasized that:
“This alliance reaffirms Central America’s vision as a region that understands its biodiversity not only as natural heritage, but as a strategic asset for its international positioning and sustainable development.”
For his part, Mr. Luis Felipe Fernández-Salvador y Campodónico, Founding President of The Embassy of Nature, stressed the importance of consolidating cooperation mechanisms that connect conservation with concrete opportunities for territories and their communities.
The agreement will also facilitate technical exchange in areas such as territorial planning with a focus on tourism, adaptation and mitigation to climate change in areas of high natural value, environmental risk management in destinations, training in sustainable practices and innovation applied to the measurement of environmental and socioeconomic impacts.
With this agreement, CATA reinforces its commitment to promoting Central America as an integrated, diverse and competitive region, where nature and culture are the core of its value proposition to the world.
