Preferred Hotels & Resorts, the world's largest independent hotel brand, announced the official opening of Las Brisas Mérida in the state of Yucatán. The launch coincides with Grupo Brisas' 25th anniversary as a hotel chain and reaffirms the long-term strategic alliance between the two companies, aimed at promoting independent Mexican hospitality. The project involved an investment of approximately 240 million pesos and generated 54 direct and 189 indirect jobs, contributing to local economic development.
The opening ceremony was attended by national and state authorities, including Josefina Rodríguez Zamora, Mexico's Secretary of Tourism; Bernardo Cueto Riestra, Quintana Roo's Secretary of Tourism and President of ASETUR; Darío Flota Ocampo, Yucatán's Secretary of Tourism Development; and Joaquín Díaz Mena, the state's governor, highlighting the project's institutional relevance for regional tourism growth.
Located on Avenida Colón, just minutes from the International Convention Center, Paseo de Montejo, and Mérida International Airport, the hotel features a boutique concept that blends contemporary design, comfort, and sustainability. With 50 suites, it is the brand's most intimate property, aiming to balance the functionality of the corporate segment with experiences geared towards relaxation and family travel.
The design adopts an eclectic and sustainable approach, making it the first hotel in the city to obtain LEED certification, an international recognition that endorses its energy efficiency and compliance with environmental standards. “Choosing Mérida was no coincidence. This city represents the perfect fusion between the history of Mayan culture and the dynamism of contemporary Mexico,” stated Antonio Cosío Pando, CEO of Grupo Brisas, who also emphasized the company's intention to continue investing and creating jobs in the country.
Its facilities include the ÉCUME restaurant, an outdoor terrace, a pool with a bar, gardens, a central courtyard, wellness areas, a gym, and event spaces equipped with state-of-the-art technology. The property also has a dog-friendly policy, with special amenities for small pets.
Joining Preferred Hotels & Resorts grants the hotel access to a global sales, marketing, distribution, and technology platform, including a presence in 35 international offices and participation in the I Prefer loyalty program. Hotels affiliated with the brand are integrated into its Legend, LVX, Lifestyle, and Preferred Residences collections, which group independent properties according to standards of experience, services, and facilities, facilitating their international positioning and attracting travelers from around the world.
