In 2025, Uruguay reached US$2.04 billion in tourism revenue, representing an increase of over 16% compared to 2024. During the year, 3,604,488 visitors entered the country, 8% more than the previous period.
The economic impact of tourism showed positive growth in both volume and consumption levels. Total spending increased by 16.6% year-on-year, while average spending per person rose by 8.1%, reflecting an improvement in individual traveler outlays.
When analyzing average spending per stay by nationality, visitors from Paraguay topped the ranking with US$1,163 per person. They were followed by Europeans (US$836) and North Americans (US$799). Further behind were Chileans (US$760), Brazilians (US$731), and Argentinians (US$516). Meanwhile, Uruguayan tourists recorded average spending of approximately US$353.
Regarding source markets, Argentina remained the leading source of visitors, with 2,403,720 arrivals and total spending of US$1.175 billion. Brazil ranked second, with 489,677 tourists and an estimated expenditure of US$336 million.
Also noteworthy was the arrival of visitors from Chile (88,109), Paraguay (80,370), North America (130,782), and Europe (199,038). Other markets contributed a total of 212,793 visitors.
The 2025 results confirm a favorable trend for the sector, which continues to consolidate its position as a key driver of economic development and foreign exchange generation in the country.
