The Maldives have been confirmed as the host country for ITB Berlin 2027, one of the most important events in the global tourism industry. The confirmation took place during ITB Berlin 2026, where the agreement was signed between Maldives officials and Messe Berlin, the event organizer.

The agreement was signed by Ibrahim Shiuree, CEO and Managing Director of Visit Maldives, and Mario Tobias, CEO of Messe Berlin, during an official ceremony at the destination's stand. Also in attendance were Abdulla Ghiyas, Chairperson of Visit Maldives Corporation; Deborah Rothe, Event Director; and David Ruetz, Senior Vice President of Messe Berlin.

“We are delighted that, ten years after its first participation as host country, the Maldives are once again taking center stage. This long-standing collaboration underscores the relevance of the fair as a global platform and the destination’s prominent role in the international tourism industry,” said Mario Tobias.

A global stage for an iconic destination

With over 1,000 islands, turquoise lagoons, white-sand beaches, and coral reefs, the Maldives has established itself as one of the world's most renowned long-haul destinations. The country is especially valued for its luxury resorts, but in recent years it has also expanded its offerings to include island tourism, cultural experiences, and nature-based activities.

In its role as host, the destination will showcase the breadth of its tourism offerings, which include boutique hotels, diving and water sports, wellness retreats, and experiences connected to the local culture. At the same time, sustainability remains a key pillar of its tourism strategy, with initiatives focused on protecting marine ecosystems and developing local communities.

“This fair offers us an ideal platform to showcase the unique experiences our islands offer to travelers from around the world. We look forward to welcoming the international tourism industry and highlighting the diversity, quality, and hospitality that characterize the destination,” said Ibrahim Shiuree.

“Visit Maldives Year”: a global strategy

Looking ahead to 2027, the Maldives government also launched a special initiative called “Visit Maldives Year,” aimed at strengthening the destination’s international visibility. The program, spearheaded by President Mohamed Muizu, includes a series of promotional activities in key markets, as well as participation in international trade fairs, roadshows, and digital campaigns.

The goal is to consolidate the Maldives' position as a premium long-haul destination, while simultaneously promoting sustainable tourism growth and strengthening cooperation with international partners.

Programming and prominent presence

As the host country, the Maldives will play a central role in the next edition of the fair. The destination will be responsible for the opening gala, to be held on March 15, 2027, in Berlin, and will present a comprehensive program of activities during the event, which will take place from March 16 to 18.

The planned proposals include a large-scale national stand, cultural presentations, networking events, and meetings with international media, with the aim of reinforcing its position within global tourism and strengthening ties with European markets.
