Volaris announced the launch of a new direct flight between Detroit and Guadalajara, expanding affordable international travel options for passengers in the Detroit area and throughout the U.S. Midwest, while strengthening air connectivity between the two countries.

The new route will begin operating on June 1 with three weekly flights, offering an additional alternative for those traveling to Mexico to visit family, go sightseeing, or plan trips related to the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

Detroit serves as a major gateway for travelers to the Midwest, and this new connection will facilitate access to Guadalajara, one of Mexico's most iconic destinations. The city is renowned as the birthplace of mariachi and tequila, and offers a rich cultural scene that includes its Historic Center, the Tequila Express tour, and its proximity to the Agave Landscape, a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Conversely, Detroit continues to solidify its position as a city undergoing urban renewal, with a revitalized downtown, a prominent musical heritage, renowned museums such as the Detroit Institute of Arts, and a strong sports culture that attracts fans from across the region.

“As we continue to expand our network in the United States, Detroit plays an important role in connecting Midwestern communities with Mexico,” said Holger Blankenstein, Executive Vice President of Volaris. “This new direct flight to Guadalajara provides more opportunities to travel safely, comfortably, and affordably, whether visiting loved ones, discovering a new destination, or joining in the excitement of the 2026 FIFA World Cup.”

Chad Newton, CEO of the Wayne County Airport Authority, emphasized the importance of the new international connection for the airport. “This announcement represents both a new airline partnership and a new international connection for our airport. Volaris’ new service at Detroit Metropolitan Wayne County Airport offers passengers a direct and convenient option to Guadalajara, facilitating access to one of Mexico’s most important cultural and economic centers.”

With growing anticipation surrounding the 2026 World Cup — to be co-hosted by the United States, Mexico, and Canada — the new route between Detroit and Guadalajara is expected to boost cross-border travel, including sports fans, families, and tourists from across the Midwest region.

Through this new connection, Volaris continues to expand its international network and reinforce its travel proposition based on safety, accessibility and convenience for passengers.
