New air route connects Montreal with Cozumel via direct flight

The vacation airline Sunwing Vacations , along with its sister brand Vacances WestJet Québec , inaugurated a new direct air route between Montreal and Cozumel , strengthening connectivity between Canada and the Mexican Caribbean. The announcement was made by the Governor of Quintana Roo, Mara Lezama Espinosa .

The first flight took off on March 6 from Montréal–Trudeau International Airport , marking the start of a new nonstop air transport alternative for travelers from the Canadian province of Quebec .

The opening of this connection responds to the sustained growth in tourist demand for the Mexican Caribbean. During 2025, more than 646,000 passengers traveled to Cozumel , while more than 31.6 million passengers chose the Mexican Caribbean as their destination.

The new route will allow tourists and business travelers to directly access Cozumel , considered one of the most important destinations in the region, especially for its resorts and diving activities , which attract visitors from all over the world.

In addition to boosting tourism, the new air service will also facilitate the mobility of professionals linked to the tourism industry, particularly those who work rotations in hotels and diving centers located on the island.

The Secretary of Tourism of Quintana Roo, Bernardo Cueto Riestra , highlighted that strengthening air connectivity is part of the ongoing work of international promotion and coordination with airlines, tour operators and business partners.

With this new operation, Cozumel reinforces its position within the Canadian market , facilitating direct access from Quebec and consolidating the presence of the Mexican Caribbean in one of the international markets with the greatest affinity for sun and beach destinations .
