The number of Colombians leaving the country grew by 11% in January 2026

The United States, Mexico, Panama, and Spain were the most popular destinations for Colombian travelers during the first month of the year, with nearly 600,000 international departures

During January 2026 , a total of 599,821 Colombians traveled abroad , representing an 11% increase compared to the same month in 2025 , according to figures from the tourism sector. The data reflects a sustained recovery in demand for international travel from Colombia.

Among the most popular destinations for Colombian travelers , the United States stands out , remaining the top market and accounting for 28.4% of international departures , with over 90,000 Colombians visiting the country during the first month of the year. Furthermore, this destination saw a positive change of 3.1% , exceeding the growth observed at the end of 2015, which was only 0.2% .

Other relevant destinations were Mexico , which showed a significant recovery with an increase of 6.2% compared to January 2025; Panama , which registered one of the most outstanding growths with 26.9% ; and Spain , which presented a positive variation of 10.2% , consolidating itself as one of the most attractive European destinations for Colombian travelers.

In terms of air connectivity, the country's three main airports accounted for 86% of international departures . El Dorado International Airport in Bogotá led the way with 62% of the total , followed by José María Córdova International Airport in Rionegro , which registered 17% , and Alfonso Bonilla Aragón International Airport in Cali , with 8% .

Paula Cortés Calle, executive president of ANATO , noted that these results reflect a greater interest in traveling abroad and the strengthening of the tourism sector. “This demonstrates a sustained recovery in demand for international tourism and a greater intention to travel among Colombians, which boosts the national economy and confirms that tourism remains a fundamental driver for Colombia's development and international projection,” she stated.

The leader added that this scenario also represents an opportunity for travel agencies , which continue to diversify their offerings and strengthen the country's air connectivity to various international destinations.
