Mexican low-cost airline Volaris announced a significant expansion of its network with the launch of 33 new routes that will begin operating in June 2026. The plan includes the addition of domestic flights within Mexico and new direct connections with the United States, in a strategic move that seeks to strengthen bilateral connectivity in a context marked by increased travel demand ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

The expansion includes 11 international and 22 domestic routes, as well as the start of operations at four new airports. In the United States, the airline will add flights to Detroit (DTW) and Salt Lake City (SLC), while in Mexico it will begin operating in Saltillo (SLW) and Reynosa (REX).

The network expansion also includes strengthening operations from key regional airports such as Puebla, Querétaro, and San Luis Potosí. Guadalajara is also positioned as one of the main hubs in this expansion, with the addition of seven new routes.

According to the airline, connections will be opened from Guadalajara to Querétaro, Reynosa, San Luis Potosí, Saltillo and Zacatecas within Mexico, in addition to new international routes to Detroit and Salt Lake City in the United States.

San Luis Potosí will expand its connectivity with new routes to Monterrey and Puerto Vallarta within Mexican territory, as well as a new service to Chicago in the US market.

For its part, Querétaro Airport will add ten new routes, including domestic destinations such as Acapulco, Durango, Mazatlán, Oaxaca, and Veracruz. Internationally, flights will be added to Dallas/Fort Worth, Denver, Houston, Orlando, and San Antonio.

Puebla's airport will also see significant expansion with twelve new routes connecting the city to destinations such as Aguascalientes, Huatulco, Los Cabos, Puerto Vallarta, Tuxtla Gutiérrez and Villahermosa within Mexico, as well as links to Houston, Los Angeles and Newark in the United States.

Holger Blankenstein, executive vice president of Volaris, highlighted that this expansion seeks to strengthen the role of regional airports as engines of economic and tourism development, by connecting dynamic markets through an offering of affordable fares that boosts demand and benefits more communities.

The new routes will begin operating during the first week of June, coinciding with the start of the summer season and the increase in international travel ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup, an event estimated to attract more than five million travelers to Mexico.
