Brazil is preparing a calendar of events for 2026 that combines major musical performances, international festivals, cultural gatherings, and top-level sporting competitions. The agenda, which began with New Year's celebrations and Carnival, aims to promote the country's culture, traditions, and tourism offerings, solidifying its position as a global entertainment hub.
Among the year's most anticipated events is the free concert by Colombian artist Shakira, scheduled for May 2nd on the iconic Copacabana beach. The show, which could draw more than two million people, will be part of the "Todo Mundo No Rio" cultural platform, an initiative that transforms one of the country's most emblematic spaces into a stage for major artistic experiences. Previous editions of this series have featured concerts by artists such as The Rolling Stones, Madonna, Lady Gaga, Caetano Veloso, and Maria Bethânia.
The concert also highlights the economic and tourism impact of the creative industry. The platform's first edition, held in 2025, generated nearly 600 million reais for Rio de Janeiro's economy and attracted approximately 500,000 tourists, according to data from the Novo Rio bus terminal and Tom Jobim International Airport. That same year, the city recorded the arrival of 2.1 million international visitors, the highest number in its history.
Brazil's cultural and entertainment calendar continues with the Lollapalooza Brasil festival, taking place from March 20-22 at the Interlagos racetrack. The event will feature international artists such as Sabrina Carpenter, Tyler, the Creator, Lorde, Chappell Roan, Deftones, and Skrillex, as well as names like Doechii, Lewis Capaldi, and Turnstile. The lineup includes a total of 71 artists, among them contemporary pop stars such as Addison Rae, Lola Young, the global group Katseye, and South Korean DJ Peggy Gou. Brazilian artists like Negra Li, Agnes Nunes, FBC, and Edson Gomes will also perform, along with DJ Diesel, the stage name of former NBA player Shaquille O'Neal.
The calendar will also include the first edition of Rio Fashion Week, taking place from April 14 to 18 in Rio de Janeiro. The event will bring together nearly 20 Brazilian brands for runway shows and activities including international conferences, business meetings, exhibitions, and culinary experiences. The initiative aims to integrate Rio Fashion Week with São Paulo Fashion Week within the official Brazilian fashion calendar and generate a significant economic impact for the city.
That same month, Rio de Janeiro will become the first South American city to host a stage of the SailGP international sailing championship, considered the “Formula 1 of sailing.” The competition will take place on April 11 and 12 in Guanabara Bay and will feature high-speed catamarans and global broadcast coverage.
During June, the traditional Festas Juninas will once again bring together millions of people across the country, especially in northeastern cities like Campina Grande and Caruaru. These popular celebrations honor Saint Anthony, Saint John, and Saint Peter through traditional dances, forró music, bonfires, and typical corn-based cuisine.
The second half of the year will be marked by the return of the iconic Rock in Rio festival, which will take place from September 4-7 and 11-13. Foo Fighters will headline the opening night, in what will be their only concert in Brazil this year. The lineup will also include artists such as Fatboy Slim, Elton John, Gilberto Gil, Jon Batiste, Maroon 5, Jamiroquai, Demi Lovato, Luísa Sonza, and the South Korean group Stray Kids.
The sporting calendar will also play a prominent role. Between September and October, the historic Maracanã Stadium will host an official National Football League match as part of the league's global markets program, which aims to expand its international presence.
Finally, the year will close with the Formula 1 Brazilian Grand Prix, which will take place from November 6th to 8th at the Autódromo José Carlos Pace. Considered one of the most traditional races on the calendar, the event is characterized by its technical layout and unpredictable weather conditions that often add excitement to the competition. In the 2024 edition, Dutchman Max Verstappen took the victory in a race marked by rain and numerous comebacks.
With this diverse agenda of shows, festivals and sporting competitions, Brazil reaffirms its ability to organize large-scale events and strengthens its position as one of the most dynamic tourist and cultural destinations in the world.
