The Secretary of Tourism of the Government of Mexico, Josefina Rodríguez Zamora, reported that during January 2026 the country received 1,963,077 foreign tourists, a figure that reflects changes in the composition of the source markets and an increase in the arrival of visitors from different countries.

According to data from the Migration Policy, Registration and Identity Unit of Mexico's Ministry of the Interior, Canada accounted for 23.2% of all international tourists, with 455,083 Canadian residents visiting the country. This figure represents a 9.7% increase compared to January 2015, when 414,919 visitors were recorded.

“Diversifying source markets is fundamental to strengthening Mexico’s tourism competitiveness. We are increasingly receiving visitors from more regions of the world, which allows us to expand opportunities for our destinations and for the communities that depend on tourism,” Rodríguez Zamora noted.

The official emphasized that these results reflect the ongoing efforts to expand the country's presence in various international markets and promote its tourism offerings globally. In this regard, she underscored the importance of Mexico's participation in international trade fairs such as the International Tourism Fair (FITUR), ITB Berlin, and Routes Americas 2026, key platforms for strengthening the destination's promotion.

In addition to Canada, other markets also saw increases in tourist arrivals during the first month of the year. Visits from Argentinian residents reached 45,588, representing an 8% increase compared to 2015 and a 6.4% increase compared to 2019 levels.

Increases were also observed in the arrival of tourists from Colombia (12.4%), the United Kingdom (10.6%), France (6.9%), Spain (7.7%) and China (15.7%), reflecting a greater geographical diversification in the origin of international visitors.

For its part, the United States remains the main source market to Mexico, with 1,136,132 tourists, a figure that represents 57.9% of the total international visitors.

Regarding the demographic profile of foreign tourists who visited the country during January 2026, 27.9% were between 30 and 44 years old, followed by 24.3% who were 60 years or older, and 23.9% who were between 45 and 59 years old. Additionally, 14.8% were tourists between 16 and 29 years old, while 9% were children and adolescents aged 0 to 15.

The data reflects an increasingly diverse composition of international tourism source markets to Mexico, a factor that contributes to strengthening the country's presence in different markets around the world and expanding growth opportunities for the tourism sector.
