The Secretary of Tourism of the Government of Mexico, Josefina Rodríguez Zamora, reported that January 2026 registered the highest levels for this month since records have been kept in the main indicators of international tourism, with the arrival of 8.84 million visitors to the country.

According to the International Travelers Survey (EVI) of the National Institute of Statistics and Geography (INEGI), this figure represents an increase of 10% compared to the same period in 2025.

During January, 4.29 million international tourists also arrived, representing an 8.6% increase compared to the same month of the previous year.

“The results for January confirm that tourism in Mexico maintains a solid growth trend. We continue to reach record levels in the main indicators of international tourism: visitor arrivals, tourists, and foreign exchange earnings, which reflects the confidence of travelers in our country,” said Rodríguez Zamora.

In economic terms, foreign exchange earnings from international visitors reached $3.477 billion during January, a figure that represents an increase of 3.9% compared to the same period in 2025.

The head of Mexico's Ministry of Tourism highlighted that these results consolidate the strategic role of tourism within the national economy and strengthen the country's international projection.

“These figures confirm the strength of tourism in Mexico and the strategic role it will play this year, in which our country will be a leading player on the international stage. We will continue working to consolidate the vision of Mexico’s President Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo, established in the Mexico Plan, to position our country as the fifth most visited country in the world,” he stated.

Rodríguez Zamora added that Sectur will continue to promote actions aimed at consolidating tourism as an engine of shared prosperity, promoting balanced development that benefits communities, strengthens local economies and generates new opportunities for the population.

Finally, he stressed that the start of this World Cup year represents a strategic opportunity to position Mexico on the international stage, through the promotion of its destinations, the diversification of source markets and the strengthening of the national tourism offer.
