Cat Island, the featured island of the month
, is tranquil and unpretentious, with many treasures to offer. It is anchored by Mount Alvernia, the highest point in The Bahamas, which rises 63 meters above sea level. Mount Alvernia is home to The Hermitage, a medieval stone monastery built in 1939 atop the mountain. The island is famous as the birthplace of the indigenous Bahamian musical genre "Rake 'N' Scrape." Its distinctive sound comes from a handsaw (raked or scraped with a metal tool like a screwdriver), a goatskin drum, and an accordion. Considered the heart and soul of Bahamian music, "Rake 'N' Scrape" is a staple at cultural events and festivals, particularly the annual Cat Island Rake 'N' Scrape Festival, held in Arthur's Town over Labor Day weekend.
Cat Island boasts pristine scenery and is perfect for snorkeling, kitesurfing, and hiking miles of rolling hills. The island also features nature trails, a 13-kilometer pink sand beach, unique historical attractions, and The Healing Hole salt pond, renowned for its healing properties. Those seeking relaxation can visit Rollezz Beach, the longest continuous stretch of beach on the island. The luxurious white sand and shimmering blue ocean are so alluring they seem to beckon you to dive in.
Don't miss the unforgettable experiences and unbeatable offers that The Bahamas has to offer.
