IHG Hotels & Resorts, one of the world's leading hotel companies, continues to strengthen its presence in Mexico, a strategic market for the growth of its brands in the Luxury & Lifestyle, Premium, Essentials, and Suites segments. Mexico currently represents IHG's fifth largest market globally in terms of the number of hotels and rooms in operation, and the company aims to double its expansion rate in the country in the coming years.

IHG's growth momentum is built on over 50 years of presence in Mexico, beginning with the opening of the country's first Holiday Inn in Acapulco in 1970. Today, the company operates 187 hotels and more than 30,000 rooms nationwide. It also has 62 additional hotels under development, which will add 8,600 rooms, reflecting strong regional demand from owners and investors, as well as from travelers who prefer its brands.

Elie Maalouf, CEO of IHG Hotels & Resorts, stated: “Strong regional and international travel flows, coupled with growing domestic demand, position Mexico as one of the most attractive hotel markets in the Americas. Thanks to our diversified brand portfolio, powerful distribution platform, and robust loyalty program, we are well-positioned to capitalize on this demand. Combined with our deep local presence and long-term relationships with property owners, we see a significant opportunity for continued growth in the country.”

Boosting value for owners and maintaining market leadership,
IHG holds a prominent position in the Mexican hotel sector. Over the past five years, it has added more than 6,000 rooms across 14 brands. Its portfolio is designed to meet the needs of owners and guests for any type of stay: from luxury resorts to select-service hotels and extended-stay options, with a presence in major urban centers, beach destinations, and regional markets.

IHG continues to expand its midscale brands in Mexico with recent openings such as Holiday Inn Express Condesa Mexico City, avid hotel Guadalajara Airport North and the country debut of Garner hotels, its midscale conversion brand, in Mazatlán.

In the premium segment, new properties are strengthening IHG's presence in strategic destinations, including the recently opened Crowne Plaza Mérida and the upcoming voco Mexico City Reforma. IHG also recently announced an agreement to add six voco hotels in Cancún, Guadalajara, Ciudad Juárez, San Luis Potosí, Torreón, and Nuevo Laredo in the coming years.

This expansion in Mexico reinforces IHG's ambition to more than double its Luxury & Lifestyle portfolio in Mexico, Latin America, and the Caribbean in the coming years. Among the most notable openings in premium destinations are the Kimpton Mas Olas Todos Santos on the Baja California Sur peninsula; the upcoming all-inclusive Kimpton Tres Ríos resort on the Riviera Maya; and the recently opened Hotel Indigo Playa del Carmen. The return of the iconic InterContinental brand to Monterrey, along with the upcoming opening of the InterContinental Miyana Mexico City, reaffirms the company's strength in this segment. The momentum will continue with Six Senses Xala, in the Costalegre region, whose opening is projected for 2027.

Michael Hoe Knudsen, Managing Director of the MLAC region (Mexico, Latin America and the Caribbean) at IHG Hotels & Resorts, added: “Mexico continues to stand out as a dynamic market for tourism and travel, and we are fully confident in its growth potential. We are also excited to open our new MLAC regional office in Guadalajara this spring, where we will grow from 40 employees currently to 200 by the end of 2026.”
