Holy Week 2026 projects tourism growth in Mexico with more than 4 million tourists

The Secretary of Tourism of the Government of Mexico, Josefina Rodríguez Zamora, reported that, on the occasion of the Easter holiday period 2026, which will take place from March 29 to April 12, the arrival of 4.03 million tourists to the main destinations of the country is expected, which represents an increase of 2.6 percent compared to the 3.93 million registered in 2025.

The head of the Ministry of Tourism (Sectur) specified that, according to estimates, hotel occupancy nationwide would reach an average of 63.85 percent, reflecting a positive trend in tourism activity.

It is also estimated that this flow of visitors will generate an economic impact of 55 billion 890 million pesos from tourists staying in hotels, reflecting the dynamism and strength of the national tourism sector.

He emphasized that promoting domestic tourism is a priority of the national tourism policy: “Holy Week is a great opportunity for Mexicans to travel around their country, generate well-being in their communities and live unique experiences in each destination.”

In this regard, she encouraged people to travel throughout Mexico and rediscover the country's diversity: "There are must-see attractions in every state that everyone should experience." Rodríguez Zamora reported that, regarding the main tourist centers of the country, Acapulco stands out significantly with a projected growth of 31.7 percent in tourist arrivals, reaching more than 447,000 visitors, as well as an estimated hotel occupancy of 71.8 percent.

For its part, Mérida registers one of the most significant increases, with an estimated growth of 18.5 percent, exceeding 108,000 tourists, consolidating itself as a rising cultural and gastronomic destination in southeastern Mexico.

Furthermore, beach destinations such as the Riviera Maya project an occupancy rate of 78.5 percent, followed by Puerto Vallarta with 78.2 percent, Los Cabos with 77.9 percent and Cancun with 75.1 percent, confirming their consolidation in the national and international markets.

Finally, in the urban sphere, Mexico City leads in tourist arrivals, with more than 458,000 projected travelers and a hotel occupancy rate of 56.2 percent, followed by Guadalajara with more than 152,000, Monterrey with more than 141,000 and Puebla with more than 134,000 tourists.
