Norwegian Cruise Line (NCL) officially celebrated the christening of its newest ship, the Norwegian Luna, in a ceremony held at PortMiami, reaffirming its growth strategy in the Caribbean and its commitment to more personalized experiences for different types of travelers.

The event, which brought together more than 2,000 guests, followed the traditional maritime ceremony of blessing vessels before they enter service. The celebration featured the participation of urban artist ELLE, the ship's godmother, who also designed the artwork "La Luna" (The Moon), an artistic intervention on the hull that represents the connection between humankind, natural cycles, and travel as a transformative experience.

“Norwegian Luna represents the evolution of the brand, built on freedom, flexibility, and the ability to design tailor-made journeys,” said Marc Kazlauskas, President of NCL. “This ship was designed for both families and travelers seeking more exclusive experiences, combining innovation, entertainment, and high-value destinations.”

Innovation and design at the service of experience

With a length of 1,056 feet and a capacity for 3,565 passengers, the Norwegian Luna is part of the evolution of the Prima Plus class, incorporating a more open, modern design focused on maximizing the connection with the sea.

Among its main innovations is the Aqua Slidecoaster, an exclusive attraction of the company that combines a roller coaster and a water slide, considered the longest and fastest at sea, with dual tracks and a magnetic propulsion system.

In addition, there are new experiences designed especially for a multi-generational audience, such as Luna Midway, an outdoor space inspired by amusement parks with carnival-style games; Moon Climber, a multi-level obstacle course; and Horizon Park, a recreational area with lawn-style activities.

The ship also incorporates technological and entertainment offerings such as the Glow Court, an immersive digital sports complex, and the Luna Game Zone, with classic video games and virtual reality experiences for all ages.

High-level entertainment and differentiated offerings

The onboard programming includes large-scale productions such as “Elton: A Celebration of Elton John,” a tribute to the iconic artist, and “HIKO: Innovation Meets Wonder,” a show that combines circus-style acrobatics, contemporary dance, and multimedia technology.

The popular Syd Norman's Pour House also returns with "A Tribute to Eagles," while the ship introduces "LunaTique," an exclusive adults-only nighttime experience inspired by the aesthetics and energy of Las Vegas, featuring performances, cocktails, and immersive offerings.

For children, there is “Sea of Discovery! An Under-the-Sea Festival”, an original experience developed by the company that combines games, visual effects and interactive dynamics.

Wide range of gastronomic options and exclusive spaces

The Norwegian Luna offers 17 dining options with more than 15 types of international cuisine, including options such as Onda by Scarpetta (contemporary Italian), Sukhothai (Thai) and Le Bistro (classic French), among others.

The experience is completed with 18 bars and lounges, ranging from sophisticated spaces like the Metropolitan Bar to more intimate options like the Whiskey Bar.

In terms of accommodations, the ship offers a wide variety of categories, from single cabins to luxury suites. The highlight is The Haven by Norwegian, the company's premium concept that functions as a "ship within a ship," complete with a restaurant, bar, lounge, and exclusive services.

Caribbean itineraries and unique destinations

Between April 2026 and April 2027, the Norwegian Luna will operate round-trip itineraries from Miami to the Eastern and Western Caribbean, with stops at exclusive company destinations such as Great Stirrup Cay and Harvest Caye.

Great Stirrup Cay, NCL's private island in the Bahamas, has recently been renovated and features new attractions such as the Great Life Lagoon, a large pool area with swim-up bars, lounge areas, and family-friendly spaces like Splash Harbor. A water park with 19 slides and other new attractions is also planned for opening soon.

Harvest Caye in Belize, meanwhile, offers a nature-focused environment, with relaxation options, beaches, and activities linked to the natural surroundings.

Expansion into new markets

After its season in Miami, the Norwegian Luna will move to New York, from where it will operate four- and seven-day itineraries to Bermuda between April and October 2027, with extended stopovers that will allow passengers to enjoy its pink sand beaches and both maritime and land activities.

“This is a moment of great pride for the entire company,” said John W. Chidsey, who emphasized that the Norwegian Luna marks a milestone in the evolution of the fleet and anticipates a new stage of growth for the brand.

With this addition, Norwegian Cruise Line continues to strengthen its position in the contemporary premium cruise segment, focusing on innovation, diversifying experiences and developing its own destinations as a central part of its value proposition.
