As Holy Week begins, one of the times with the highest influx of tourists to the beaches, the Costa Rican Tourism Institute (ICT) created a series of preventative infographics entitled "General recommendations to enjoy the beach safely".

The main objective is to compile a series of useful tips and advice so that visitors to the beaches of both coasts can enjoy themselves to the fullest, but above all, avoid unnecessary risk situations.

The designs are conceptualized with direct and simple messages that can be "viralized" to be reviewed while traveling.

“The Costa Rican Tourism Institute (ICT) urges everyone visiting our beaches this Holy Week to do so safely and, above all, responsibly. It is extremely important to be informed before entering the water. Today, we have signage on the most popular beaches with clear recommendations about ocean conditions and the presence of dangerous currents. It is also essential to pay attention to warning flags and check if there is a lifeguard tower on the beach. Our priority is to protect our loved ones and enjoy our vacations safely,” explained Ana Cristina Quirós Soto, Head of the Tourist Services Department at the ICT.

The information includes recommendations on the proper use of sunscreen, constant hydration, respect for biodiversity, care of belongings, and if you don't know how to swim, it is recommended that the waves never exceed waist height.

Other infographics also explain how to recognize rip currents and check the warning signs placed on beaches, as well as the activation of colored warning flags by lifeguards.

Finally, in case of an emergency, a recommendation present in all the infographics is to call 911, which is available 24 hours a day.

Central Pacific debuts new signage about rip currents
As part of these preventive actions, the ICT, together with the Tourist Police and the Chamber of Tourism and Sustainable Commerce of the Central Pacific (CATUCOSO), coordinated the placement of new large format metal signs about rip currents in Jacó Beach, before the start of Holy Week.

These signs include directions and preventative information on ocean conditions, precautionary measures and actions in case of emergency, thus contributing to risk reduction and promoting a culture of prevention among bathers.

The new signage was placed at strategic points with high tourist traffic, especially the areas of Madrigales, Morales, Calle Mora, La Central, Bohío, as well as Calles Bribrí, Pochote and Claritas.

“As a Chamber, we reiterate our firm commitment to continue promoting actions that contribute to creating safer, more orderly, and responsible environments, all for the safety of national and international tourists,” concluded Juan Carlos Chavez Alvarado, president of CATUCOSO.

It is worth noting that warning signs about rip currents are posted on dozens of beaches in our country.
