Air Canada announced the addition of several new destinations to its global network for the 2026-27 winter holiday season, including the only nonstop flights from North America to Tenerife in the Canary Islands. The airline also added Mérida, Mazatlán, Roatán, and Santo Domingo as new destinations, in addition to several nonstop flights to popular Caribbean and Mexican locations. Tickets are now on sale at aircanada.com, and vacation packages will be available in eligible markets at aircanadavacations.com.
"With this addition, we further consolidate Air Canada's global network as one of the most extensive from North America. The arrival in Tenerife reflects our ambition to offer our passengers and Aeroplan members an exceptional variety of unique destinations."
“Thanks to the state-of-the-art technology of our new A321XLR aircraft, travelers now have comfortable options to reach this island famous for its stunning volcanic landscapes, a wide variety of must-see activities and year-round warm weather,” said Mark Galardo, Executive Vice President, Chief Commercial Officer and President of Cargo at Air Canada.
"Air Canada is also expanding its flights to Latin America from Vancouver, thanks to the growth of our A220 and Air Canada Rouge aircraft bases. This allows us to open highly anticipated direct routes to Costa Rica and Mexico, including Mazatlán, our newest Mexican destination. In addition, we're adding Roatán, Santo Domingo, and Mérida to our global network, while introducing new rest options for our passengers in Edmonton, Winnipeg, Quebec City, and Halifax."
“Together with our previously announced services to Sapporo and Quito, and the new routes from Calgary to Mexico, Air Canada continues to strengthen its industry-leading network, proudly connecting Canada to the rest of the world,” concluded Mark Galardo.
For his part, Luis Noriega Benet, Commercial Director for Latin America and the Caribbean at Air Canada, mentioned: “We are proud to continue growing in Mexico, a key market for Air Canada, and reaffirming our commitment to connecting the country with the world through Canada via an increasingly robust route network.”
“In this regard, we have established ourselves as the only airline with direct flights from Nuevo León to Canada with the Monterrey–Toronto route, to which the new Monterrey–Vancouver route is now added. Likewise, we continue to strengthen our presence in destinations such as Mérida and Mazatlán, as part of our strategic expansion in Mexico and Latin America.”
The CEO of Turismo de Tenerife, Dimple Melwani, stated: "The arrival of Air Canada with direct flights from Toronto and Montreal is a strategic boost for Tenerife, consolidating our destination as a global benchmark and bringing us closer to high-value travelers for the island. This connection gives us the opportunity to strengthen Tenerife in markets with growing demand, not only as a holiday destination, but also as a global hub in strategic sectors such as business tourism, the audiovisual and cultural industries, as well as cruise tourism with multi-destination itineraries."
According to Melwani: "The island has been working for several years to improve its positioning in these markets, whose interest in Tenerife continues to grow. This direct flight allows Tenerife to reinforce its position as a gateway to Europe for North American travelers, while raising the profile of our cultural, culinary, and leisure offerings. We are confident that this connection will increase Tenerife's visibility as a comprehensive and competitive destination compared to other international options."
Air Canada flights to Tenerife will be operated with the new Airbus A321XLR aircraft, which feature lie-flat seats in the Business Class cabin, providing the experience of a wide-body aircraft in a narrow-body or single-aisle aircraft.
With a capacity for 182 passengers (14 seats in Signature Class and 168 in Economy), the A321XLR marks the beginning of a new era in Air Canada interiors, introducing a new design standard for the onboard experience.
