Air Canada announced the addition of new destinations and routes for the 2026-2027 winter season, highlighting the launch of direct flights to Tenerife in the Canary Islands, which will be the only non-stop flights between North America and that destination.
The airline will also add new routes to Roatán (Honduras), Santo Domingo (Dominican Republic), Mérida and Mazatlán (Mexico), in addition to strengthening its network to the Caribbean, Central America and Mexico from various Canadian cities.
Flights are now available for purchase, while vacation packages will be sold through Air Canada Vacations. According to Mark Galardo, the company's executive vice president and chief commercial officer, the
addition of Tenerife is part of a strategy to expand an increasingly diverse and far-reaching global network. He emphasized that the new route will provide direct access to a destination renowned for its volcanic landscape, diverse activities, and year-round mild climate.
The route will be operated with state-of-the-art Airbus A321XLR aircraft, equipped with reclining seats in business class and a capacity for 182 passengers. This model also introduces a new standard in the airline's cabin experience.
In parallel, Air Canada will strengthen its presence in Latin America with new routes from Vancouver to Costa Rica and Mexico, and expand its tourism offering from cities such as Calgary, Edmonton, Winnipeg, Quebec and Halifax.
From Tenerife, the island's Executive Director of Tourism, Dimple Melwani, praised the airline's arrival as a "strategic boost" that will attract high-value travelers and consolidate the destination's position in North American markets.
“This connection reinforces Tenerife’s role as a gateway to Europe and improves the visibility of our cultural, gastronomic and leisure offerings,” he said.
Among the new nonstop routes announced are connections from Vancouver to Liberia (Costa Rica), Monterrey and Puerto Escondido (Mexico), as well as flights from Calgary to Cancún and Puerto Vallarta. Services are also being added from Montreal to Aruba and from several Canadian cities to Caribbean destinations such as Jamaica, Barbados, and Punta Cana.
The new operations will be subject to government approvals and possible adjustments to schedules.
