The Secretary of Tourism of the Government of Mexico, Josefina Rodríguez Zamora, announced that, during the first two months of 2026, Mexico registered the arrival of 16.85 million international visitors, which represented an increase of 9.3 percent compared to the same period in 2025.
The head of the Ministry of Tourism (Sectur) emphasized that, according to the 2026 International Travelers Survey (EVI) of the National Institute of Statistics and Geography (INEGI), between January and February of this year, the arrival of 8.17 million international tourists was also recorded, which meant an increase of 6.5 percent compared to the previous year.
“The fact that more and more people are choosing to visit Mexico reflects the confidence in the tourist experience that our country offers: a diverse, high-quality and constantly strengthening offering that positions us as one of the most attractive destinations internationally,” he said.
He specified that, during this period, foreign exchange earnings from international visitors reached $6.746 billion, representing an increase of 2.2 percent compared to the same period in 2025.
“International tourism revenues continue to grow, confirming the positive impact of the sector on the national economy and its role as an engine of development and well-being for millions of people in our country,” he stated.
He highlighted that, in particular, February 2026 saw the arrival of 8.01 million international visitors, representing an 8.5 percent increase year-on-year, who contributed to the generation of $3.268 billion in foreign exchange earnings, consolidating a steady flow of travelers to the country.
In this same month, the arrival of international tourists reached 3.88 million, representing an increase of 4.2 percent compared to February 2025.
She also emphasized that the Ministry of Tourism will continue to promote actions aimed at consolidating tourism as a generator of Shared Prosperity, promoting regional development, strengthening local economies, and expanding opportunities for Mexicans.
Finally, he noted that in 2026, a key year for Mexico's international projection, strategies for promotion, market diversification, and improvement of the tourism offer will be strengthened, with the aim of expanding the benefits of tourism throughout the country.
