Within the framework of the WTM Latin America fair, the Secretary General and CEO of the Caribbean Tourism Organization, Dona Regis-Prosper, together with Ernest Hilaire, presented a new strategic event for the region: the first Caribbean Tourism Market Summit Latin America.
—Donna, could you repeat the details of this event you just announced?
—It is an honor to announce that next year, on May 5th and 6th, 2027, Saint Lucia, a CTO member, will host the first Caribbean Tourism Market Summit focused on Latin America. This is the first time we are holding this event, with the idea of bringing together key partners in the Latin American market: airlines, tour operators, travel agents, media, and content creators, all in one place to discuss opportunities.
—So this is a strong commitment to the region?
—Absolutely. We're talking about a market that's growing very rapidly: last year we saw a 23% increase compared to the previous year, reaching a total of 1.7 million visitors to the Caribbean. And we believe there's still plenty of room for further growth.
—How do you see the Latin American tourism market in general today?
—We see it as a key piece for the future of tourism in the Caribbean, not only in terms of volume, but also in terms of value. Our studies indicate that Latin American travelers tend to become deeply involved in experiences: they participate in cultural activities, gastronomy, and festivals. There is a natural synergy between the Caribbean and Latin America, so we consider it a perfect combination.
—This year's WTM also features a strong Caribbean presence…
—Yes, definitely. There are so many destinations represented: from Jamaica and the Bahamas to smaller islands like Grenada and Tobago. Saint Lucia also has a prominent presence, all of them understanding the growing importance of the Latin American market.
