What are Windstar Cruises' objectives in participating in this event?
We're participating with the entire team because it's a key opportunity to showcase the company's evolution. Windstar has a 40-year history as a pioneer in the small ship segment, and today we're a company with eight vessels, including newly added yachts.
Among them is the Star Seeker, which began its inaugural season in Alaska and will then operate in Japan and Southeast Asia, destinations highly sought after by our guests. We also introduced the Star Explorer, which will be part of a new offering that connects river and ocean experiences.
What does this new "river to ocean" offering entail?
It's an innovative concept that combines the experience of river cruises with ocean sailing. The Star Explorer will operate year-round in Europe, including the Mediterranean, the North Sea, and the Baltic, but with the unique feature of being able to access certain rivers.
This expands the possibilities for travelers who are already familiar with the great European rivers, such as the Danube or the Rhine, and are looking for new ways to explore destinations with the same level of intimacy and proximity.
How does Windstar differ from the major cruise lines?
Our ships are yachts, not traditional cruise ships. This means a completely different experience, with a maximum of 350 passengers and highly personalized service.
Furthermore, we access destinations inaccessible to larger ships. This allows for a more authentic and less crowded experience, both on board and ashore. Embarkation and disembarkation are quick and easy, and the relationship between crew and guests is much closer.
What trends are you seeing in travelers' preferences?
Today's traveler seeks quality in all aspects, especially in gastronomy. There is a greater appreciation for fresh produce, local cuisine, and authentic culinary experiences.
In this sense, we are the official cruise line of the James Beard Foundation, which allows us to work with internationally renowned chefs to design gastronomic proposals on board.
We also observed that travelers are seeking more immersive and less touristy experiences, with more time at their destination to explore independently and connect with the local culture.
What recent developments stand out in the fleet and itineraries?
One of the most important announcements is the strengthening of our presence in French Polynesia. Following a complete refurbishment, we will reintroduce a sailing ship to Tahiti, complementing the current operation of the Star Breeze.
This will allow for expanded itineraries and the inclusion of less explored destinations such as the Marquesas Islands, offering a more complete experience in the region.
What unique value do you aim to offer your guests?
Our main differentiator is the combination of personalization, access to unique destinations, and a relaxed experience. We want our guests to feel not like tourists, but like travelers who discover each destination authentically.
The concept of traveling on a yacht allows for greater flexibility, more time in ports, and the possibility of experiencing each itinerary in depth, redefining the traditional cruise experience.
