The race will take place in Brazil at Clube Esportivo Aretê Búzios, located at Avenida José Bento Ribeiro Dantas, Armação dos Búzios, Rio de Janeiro.
Following having been awarded one of the highest honours in Malta by the President of the Republic – the Gieh Ir-Repubblika – for his charitable works and the National Sportsman of the Year award, Fabio has now set his sights on the Double Deca Ultra Triathlon. This is an extreme multiday endurance challenge covering extraordinary distances across three disciplines. Competitors will complete a 76 kilometre swim, equivalent to swimming around Malta, followed by a 3,600 kilometre cycling leg, comparable to cycling around Sicily four times, and an 844 kilometre run, equivalent to running one full loop around Sicily. The race is expected to last approximately 21 days, with athletes sleeping an average of just four hours per day throughout the event.
Fabio Spiteri will be supported by a two-person crew during the race. Philip Cachia will serve as his masseur, while Philip Cauchi will be responsible for nutrition management and motivation, both playing a critical role in sustaining performance during the prolonged challenge.
The 2026 Double Deca starting list features eight international athletes, including three from Brazil. The confirmed starters are Beto Stael from Brazil, Goulwenn Tristant from France, Jurand Czabański from Poland, Fabio Spiteri from Malta, Ricardo dos Santos from Brazil, Alexandre Fontenelle from Brazil, Jurij Tarča from the Czech Republic, and Shanda Hill from Canada.
Beyond the sporting challenge, Spiteri is using his participation in the Double Deca Ultra Triathlon to support an important charitable cause. Through his fundraising initiative, Project 100, he aims to raise over €100,000 for all animal shelters in Malta and Gozo. In 2025, he successfully raised a record €110,500 for animal welfare, with all funds distributed among shelters across the Maltese Islands. For this year’s challenge, the objective is to surpass that figure and continue supporting the vital work carried out by these organisations.
Members of the public wishing to support Project 100 can donate through several channels, including Revolut on +356 99816248, PayPal via rarmalta@gmail.com or through the link https://paypal.me/RealAnimalRights?locale.x=en_US. Bank transfers can be made to Bank of Valletta with IBAN MT40VALL22013000000050010082877.
For the Double Deca Ultra Triathlon and Project 100, Fabio Spiteri is supported by a wide network of sponsors. These include Royal Canin Malta, Vertex Alliance, Cisk, Garmin Malta, VisitMalta, Wheel Wizard Malta, Go&Fun Green Energy Drink, Kuluri, Eurosport Malta, H2 Vibe Style, 24/7 Fitness Club, ABUS Cycling, Rise Physio +, and Zinzino.
