Royal Caribbean took another step in the development of its next flagship by launching sea trials of Legend of the Seas, a key stage in the process leading up to its official debut scheduled for July 2026. This stage marks one of the final phases of construction of the ship, which is positioned as one of the company's main bets for the family segment.
Over a 10-day period, more than 2,000 engineers, specialists, and crew members will participate in a series of technical evaluations designed to ensure the ship's proper functioning. During this process, Legend of the Seas will travel approximately 2,400 nautical miles, undergoing tests that include propulsion systems, navigation, speed, and safety, among other fundamental operational aspects.
Once these trials are complete, the ship will return to the Meyer Turku shipyard in Turku, Finland, where the final stage of construction will be completed before its maiden voyage. The vessel's debut will take place from Rome (Civitavecchia), Italy, solidifying its position within the European market.
Legend of the Seas will be part of the Icon class and will offer 7-night itineraries in the Western Mediterranean, departing from Rome and Barcelona. Planned destinations include Provence (Marseille), Naples, and Palma de Mallorca, creating a program that combines cultural experiences with iconic destinations in the region.
Later, in November 2026, the ship will make its Caribbean debut with 6-night Western Caribbean and 8-night Southern Caribbean itineraries departing from Fort Lauderdale, Florida. These routes will include stops at Perfect Day at CocoCay, Royal Caribbean's private resort, which has become one of the company's main attractions.
With this advancement, Royal Caribbean continues to strengthen its offering within the next-generation cruise segment, integrating technological innovation, operational safety, and experiences designed for the contemporary traveler.
