On Earth Day, the Airports Council International for Latin America and the Caribbean (ACI-LAC) highlighted the growing momentum of the climate agenda in the regional airport sector. In this context, the progress of Lynden Pindling International Airport in Nassau, Bahamas, stands out, having achieved Level 2 certification under the Airport Carbon Accreditation (ACA) program, a global certification that evaluates the management and reduction of carbon emissions at airports.

The program, developed by Airports Council International (ACI), establishes different levels of accreditation with increasingly stringent decarbonization requirements. Specifically, Level 2 recognizes airports that have not only measured their carbon footprint but have also achieved concrete reductions through efficient management.

ACI-LAC highlighted that these types of advancements reflect a broader transformation in the region. Currently, 118 airports in Latin America and the Caribbean are accredited within the program at different levels, demonstrating the industry's growing commitment to sustainability.

Among the most advanced cases, Salvador Bahia Airport in Brazil reached Level 5 —the highest within the scheme—, while Quito International Airport and the Galapagos Ecological Airport in Ecuador achieved Level 4+, positioning the region among the global benchmarks in airport decarbonization.

In this context, Nassau Airport's progress builds upon its previous certifications and forms part of a sustained strategy to reduce its environmental footprint and operate under responsible growth criteria. The organization emphasized that sustainability is not a one-off goal, but rather an ongoing process that permeates operations, investment, and long-term planning.

ACI-LAC also reaffirmed its commitment to supporting its members through collaboration, institutional representation, and the exchange of best practices, with the aim of consolidating a more resilient, efficient aeronautical sector aligned with global climate challenges.
