The Dominican Annual Tourism Exchange (DATE 2026), organized by the Dominican Republic Hotel and Tourism Association (Asonahores), concluded with record results, reaffirming its role as the leading tourism marketing platform in the Caribbean and a key driver for generating foreign exchange, employment and economic growth in the country.
According to Asonahores, the event generated more than 8,000 business appointments between local suppliers and international buyers, exceeding expectations and leading to agreements that will directly impact hotel occupancy and visitor flow in the coming months.
The 2026 edition brought together more than 200 companies from over 20 source markets, along with more than 300 international buyers and an offering of 120 stands, reflecting the global reach of the Dominican destination.
The organization emphasized that this volume of negotiations confirms DATE's role as a strategic tool for international promotion, capable of translating into thousands of additional visitors each year and a multiplier effect on key sectors of the economy, from agribusiness to transport and SMEs.
This year, the program was enhanced with a comprehensive agenda that included business networking sessions, a dynamic press room, a brand experience lounge, and a series of evening activities designed to showcase Dominican identity. The pre-opening event at Panaca, the opening at Dominicania—with a program combining gastronomy, music, and culture—and the closing event at Coco Bongo offered participants an immersive experience in the diversity of the country's tourism offerings.
The event also brought together more than 20 Tourism Promotion Offices (TPOs) from strategic markets such as the United States, Mexico, Argentina, Colombia, Germany, Brazil, France, Chile, Puerto Rico, and Spain, strengthening the destination's commercial connectivity. This was complemented by the participation of 33 sponsors, 12 external press conferences, and an academic program featuring presentations by international experts and industry leaders.
Asonahores' Executive Vice President, Aguie Lendor, emphasized the structural impact of the meeting: "DATE not only connects the Dominican tourism offer with the main international markets, but also drives concrete results that translate into higher occupancy, more visitors and more opportunities for the entire tourism value chain."
During the event, the performance of the Tourism Promotion Offices was also recognized, highlighting Mexico as the market with the highest number of coordinated appointments, and Germany for leading the participation in number of purchasing companies.
The closing of DATE 2026 took place in a context of sustained growth in Dominican tourism, which continues to position itself as one of the main generators of employment and foreign exchange, as well as a strategic sector to attract investments, diversify the offer and strengthen the competitiveness of the destination at a global level.
