Just over a year before the 2026 FIFA World Cup, a comparative study evaluated the main host cities based on key variables such as accommodation price, cost of living, safety, climate and number of tourist attractions.

The ranking places Guadalajara as the best host city to visit during the tournament, with a score of 8.19 out of 10. The capital of Jalisco stands out for its combination of affordable costs and favorable conditions: it boasts the lowest monthly cost of living in the ranking (489.15 GBP) and some of the most competitive hotel prices (124.11 GBP per night). Added to this is a mild climate, with an average temperature of 20°C, and a selection of 27 tourist attractions.

Toronto comes in second place (8.12), standing out primarily for its safety—one of the highest in the study—and its wide range of cultural offerings, with over 100 attractions and dozens of museums. However, the cost of living is considerably higher.

Mexico City (8.04) completes the podium, combining relatively affordable prices with one of the richest cultural offerings in the analysis. The city boasts around 190 museums, placing it among the most prominent in this category.

In fourth place is Los Angeles (7.40), one of the destinations with the widest range of entertainment options, boasting over 200 attractions. It also stands out for its ideal weather conditions during the tournament, with an average of no rainy days. However, the high cost of living and accommodation places it among the more expensive options.

Kansas City (7.36) completes the top five, although it has a more limited tourist offer, it positions itself as a more economical alternative within the United States, especially in accommodation.

At the other end of the ranking is Miami, with a score of 5.48 out of 10. Despite its international popularity, the study points to a lower supply of attractions compared to other host cities, along with relatively high costs for visitors.

Other notable destinations on the list include Vancouver, Atlanta, New York, Monterrey, and San Francisco, which combine different levels of cost, safety, and tourist offerings.

According to Maarten Zomerdijk, co-CEO of Live Football Tickets, “For fans, traveling to the 2026 World Cup will be one of the most significant football trips in recent years. Factors such as flights, accommodation, and daily expenses mean that the choice of city has a direct impact on the overall travel budget.”

The report thus reflects how, beyond the sporting appeal, economic and logistical variables will be decisive when planning the World Cup experience.
