Curaçao is preparing to host a new edition of OCEANMAN Curaçao 2026, one of the world's most important open water swimming festivals, which will take place on May 16 and 17 in Caracasbaai, a Caribbean bay known for its crystal clear waters and ideal conditions for practicing this discipline.
In this edition, Colombia is positioned as the leading market: 64.7% of the registered swimmers are Colombian, reflecting both the growing interest in open water competitions and the consolidation of Curaçao as a key destination for sports tourism in the region.
The distribution by distance shows a clear preference for accessible yet challenging formats. 42.9% of Colombian athletes will compete in the Sprint category (2 km), while 39.8% will participate in the Half Oceanman (5 km), confirming a trend towards experiences that combine athletic performance with enjoyment of the surroundings.
OCEANMAN is the world's largest international open water swimming circuit, with competitions in strategic locations that bring together professional and amateur swimmers. Its inclusive format allows participation in events ranging from 2 km to 10 km, broadening access to the sport for different experience levels.
The circuit's relevance extends beyond the sporting aspect. OCEANMAN has established itself as a driving force in sports tourism, connecting destinations with global communities of athletes and generating trips motivated by competitive experiences. This model boosts local economies and puts host destinations on the radar of active travelers. Furthermore, it serves as a qualifier for the OCEANMAN World Championship, raising its competitive level and international appeal.
The event, which is supported by the Curaçao Tourism Board (CTB), will bring together approximately 400 international swimmers from countries such as Mexico, the United States, the Dominican Republic, Canada, Chile and Puerto Rico, among others, reaffirming its global character.
OCEANMAN Curaçao 2026 will be the third edition of the event on the island and will be part of the OCEANMAN Open Water circuit. Different distances for all levels will be offered throughout the weekend.
Among the outstanding athletes is Colombian Olympic swimmer Julio Galofre, who will compete alongside amateur and elite athletes, reinforcing the country's strong presence in the competition.
Beyond the sporting aspect, the event offers a comprehensive experience that combines sport, tourism, and nature. Participants and their companions can enjoy the beaches, culture, and local cuisine—an approach that has been key to establishing Curaçao as one of the preferred destinations for Colombian travelers in the Caribbean.
The competition will also serve as a qualifier for the 2026 OCEANMAN World Championships, to be held in the Dominican Republic, increasing its appeal for swimmers seeking international exposure. With strong air connectivity from cities like Bogotá, Medellín, and Barranquilla, Curaçao continues to solidify its position as a strategic hub for sports tourism in the region.
