Paraguayan President Santiago Peña appointed Jacinto Santa María as the new head of the National Secretariat of Tourism (Senatur), replacing Angie Duarte, as part of a cabinet reshuffle aimed at strengthening key areas of government.

The appointment marks the beginning of a new phase for the country’s tourism sector, which is considered strategic for economic development. The government is seeking to position tourism as a driver of growth, with a strong impact on job creation and regional development.

Santa María, a lawyer with experience linked to tourism initiatives, including ecotourism projects, brings a profile aligned with sustainability as a core pillar of management.

In this context, his administration is expected to focus on attracting investment, improving infrastructure, and boosting Paraguay’s international visibility, with the goal of positioning the country as a competitive destination in the region.
