Amadeus announced its intention to acquire IDEMIA Public Security (IPS) for 1.2 billion euros, in a strategic operation aimed at accelerating the digital transformation of the tourism sector and moving towards integrated and frictionless travel experiences.

The company emphasized that this acquisition aligns with its strategy to position itself as an “orchestrator” of the travel ecosystem. Currently, it connects airlines, airports, hotels, and border systems, and with the addition of IPS, it will expand its capabilities in digital identity and biometrics.

The operation follows the 2024 acquisition of Vision-Box, a specialized provider of biometric solutions, and will strengthen its position in the airport and border control sectors.

IPS, headquartered in France, has over 3,300 employees and more than 600 clients globally, in both the public and private sectors. Its solutions range from passenger processing to secure identity systems in regulated environments.

This integration will enable the creation of a secure digital identity layer throughout the entire journey, combining biometrics with systems used by airlines, airports, borders, and hotels. This will facilitate more agile, automated, and connected processes, improving security and reducing friction at every touchpoint.

“This move reinforces our commitment to biometrics as a core part of our platform strategy. Along with artificial intelligence, it is one of the most transformative technologies for delivering faster, more comfortable, and safer journeys,” said Luis Maroto.

For his part, Decius Valmorbida highlighted that the connection between physical and digital identity will be key in an increasingly AI-driven environment, enabling more integrated experiences throughout the traveler's journey.

From a strategic point of view, the acquisition will expand Amadeus' touchpoints throughout the passenger journey, from booking to boarding, consolidating its role as the central platform for the industry.

The transaction is subject to regulatory approvals and is expected to be completed by mid-2027. It also includes a variable compensation structure that could raise the total value to €1.35 billion.

With this move, Amadeus reinforces its commitment to key technologies such as biometrics, artificial intelligence and advanced data management, in a context where the industry seeks to offer increasingly seamless, secure and personalized experiences.
