At the 2026 Tianguis Turístico, the state of Nayarit proved itself to be the destination that has it all. On the first day of Mexico's most important tourism business event, the state successfully kicked off its participation with the traditional ribbon-cutting ceremony for its stand, marking the beginning of a key day for promoting the state's natural and cultural riches.
At this inaugural event, which was attended by the Federal Secretary of Tourism, the Governor of Guerrero and the State Secretary of Tourism, Juan Enrique Suárez del Real Tostado; Nayarit reaffirmed its position as a benchmark of excellence and competitiveness in the global market.
Following the official ceremony, the organization hosted an unforgettable evening at the iconic Zibu restaurant, where gastronomy became the destination's best ambassador. Before media, travel agents, and special guests, Nayarit's extensive and exclusive tourism offerings were presented, highlighting the increased hotel occupancy during off-seasons, improved national and international connectivity, the interest of luxury brands in developing convention centers, and the destination's international profile as a premium location.
In this regard, Riviera Nayarit has established itself as one of Mexico's most important luxury destinations, with more than 15 world-class brands already operating or announcing their arrival in the state. This destination has become a favorite among travelers who appreciate exclusivity thanks to the development of private villas, high-end glamping sites, and beachfront residences. As a result, more than 60% of international tourists in the Riviera Nayarit area belong to the premium segment.
The state of Nayarit currently boasts over 28,500 hotel rooms, ranging from high-end resorts to charming accommodations in designated "Pueblos Mágicos" (Magical Towns). Furthermore, new developments are planned, including the Ritz-Carlton Reserve, Gran Meliá Hotel, Hotel Zel Sayulita, Montage, Pendry, Belmond's Milaroca, and UNICO Riviera Nayarit. Future investments in the state are also anticipated from major hotel groups such as JW Marriott, Autograph Collection Hotels, AMResorts, and Grupo Vidanta.
In addition to this, the state also stands out nationally and internationally thanks to its iconic places such as the 9 Magical Towns and Magical Neighborhoods it has: Sayulita, Jala, Mexcaltitán, Compostela, Amatlán de Cañas, San Blas, Ixtlán del Río, Ahuacatlán, Puerto Balleto and Bellavista.
Also noteworthy are its paradisiacal beaches such as Sayulita, San Pancho, Punta Mita, Rincón de Guayabitos and San Blas; the majestic islands such as the Marietas, Isabel, La Tovara and Mexcaltitán; the mountains, volcanoes and viewpoints, the historical and cultural sites, as well as modern attractions and entertainment such as the Vidanta World theme park (under development) and the Litibú, Punta Mita Golf and El Tigre Golf courses.
Also noteworthy is the robust tourism infrastructure provided by modern highways and an airport with global connections, allowing over 28,000 travelers to enter the state daily via both routes. More than 12.4 billion pesos have been invested in the Tepic–Compostela, Compostela–Las Varas, Las Varas–Platanitos, and Platanitos–San Blas highways to reduce travel times and position Nayarit as a strategic logistics hub in western Mexico.
These projects are part of the more than 60% growth in the state's high-specification highway network, which has expanded from 380 kilometers in 2021 to 615 kilometers today. It is projected that by 2027, this network will exceed 665 kilometers.
Regarding air connectivity, passenger traffic in Nayarit reached 172,000 travelers in 2021, while in 2025 it exceeded 240,000 passengers, a 40% increase. These figures are complemented by the growth of airport infrastructure, most notably the new 18,000 m² terminal capable of accommodating larger aircraft, which will expand operational capacity and strengthen the state's international connectivity.
For all this and more, Nayarit demonstrated on the first day of the Tianguis Turístico 2026 that it is the destination that has it all, because it is a state that welcomes all visitors with open arms, connecting them with its roots, its energy and a living heritage that continues to mark the pulse of this land.
