The launching of the movement "Let's all travel through Mexico" in the United States, and in particular in New York, is a personalized message for an audience that shows a remarkable growth in the influx of Mexican-American travelers to Mexican destinations, said the Tourism Secretary , Enrique de la Madrid, during his working tour of the American Union.
This segment of the Hispanic population is important for tourism in Mexico, because it is a potential market that involves 500 companies and global brands of the industry, explained the head of the Sectur, before tour operators and tourism entrepreneurs from both nations.
He recalled that last year Mexico faced, in tourism, several challenges: hurricanes, earthquakes, travel alerts issued by US authorities, "these events made us redouble efforts, strengthen and expand communication with our consumers around the world, and especially in the United States to guarantee that Mexico would position itself as a friendly and safe nation for tourism. "
During his work tour of New York, De la Madrid Cordero stressed that "this visit to the United States is of special relevance given the close relationship between our two nations." In this regard, he informed that in 2017 "we received more than 685 thousand visitors from New York and the Newark area; which represents 23.7 percent increase in visitors from New York, and 45.5 percent more from Newark, in relation to 2016. "
He added that in particular, the Tourism Secretariat of the Mexican government has linked up with our partners in the tourism industry in the United States, including airlines, hotel chains, tour operators, among others, to invite them to collaborate more closely, and multiply the markets, and make promotional efforts to maintain the growth of the sector in our country.
At The Cornell Club, located in the heart of Manhattan, Secretary De la Madrid thanked the collaboration of the different actors of the sector to achieve this synergy that allowed to realize the promotion of the various destinations of Mexico in the American Union.
The vast majority of that 11 percent who identify themselves as Hispanic are Mexican-Americans, and they represent more than 35 million and it is one of the fastest growing groups in the United States, in terms of income, economic mobility, in general.
Members of the Mexican-American community are frequent travelers and make more international trips a year than average Americans, and as you can imagine, their main destination is Mexico, the head of the SECTUR said.
Enrique de la Madrid explained that for this reason "we are inviting those 35 million Mexican-Americans to visit Mexican destinations, to take time to discover incredible experiences, which are especially theirs. We are excited to introduce this program in New York, "he said.
