More than 10.5 million foreign tourists visited Mexico in Q1

Mexico's tourism activity registered historical figures during the first quarter of this year, a period in which more than 10 and a half million people visited a destination in our country. Only in the month of March the flow of international tourists added four million tourists, reported the Ministry of Tourism (Sectur) of the Government of the Republic.

The SECTUR specified that according to data from the Bank of Mexico (Banxico) the flow of international tourists to our country from January to March 2018 totaled 10.6 million people, a figure 12.6% higher than the 9.4 million registered in the same period of 2017.

The Federal Ministry of Tourism added that the income of foreign currency by international visitors registered a growth of 7.2%, reaching 6 thousand 217 million dollars from January to March of this year, higher than the 5 thousand 801 million dollars observed in the same period of the previous year.

Likewise, it was reported that the average expenditure of international tourists presented a reduction of (-) 4.4%, going from 558 dollars, in the period January to March 2017, to 533.4 dollars in the same period of 2018.

The Ministry of Tourism noted that the flow of international tourists only in the month of March this year added 4.0 million people, a figure higher by 14.6% compared to 3.5 million registered in the same month of 2017.

He added that the income of foreign currency by international visitors observed a growth of 13.8%, since in March 2018 it reached 2 thousand 363 million dollars, higher than the 2 thousand 076 million dollars registered in the same month last year.

Finally, the Sectur indicated that in the month of March of this year the average expenditure of international tourists presented a growth of 0.04%, going from 539.4 dollars in the third month of 2017 to 539.6 dollars in the same month of the current year.
