Governor Ricardo Rosselló appointed Carla Campos as director of the Tourism Company of Puerto Rico (CTPR) on Monday, after José Izquierdo II was removed from office due to lack of "confidence".

The latter at the request of former secretary of the governorship William Villafañe, who resigned on Wednesday, May 2, hours after being referred Panel of Independent Special Prosecutor (FEI) for the controversial WhatsApp chat.

Campos, when appointed as director of the CTPR, said: I thank Governor Ricardo Rossello for the confidence he has placed in me to lead the Tourism Company of Puerto Rico as Executive Director. Tourism has the ability to become the engine of economic development of our island in the short term, and my commitment will continue to be to generate innovative solutions, hand in hand with the private sector, that will allow us to increase our tourism competitiveness in all senses.

At the same time that the DMO assumes the reins of the marketing of the destiny abroad as of July of this year, as a government we have the obligation to focus on improving the tourist experience that visits us, through the adequate planning of the tourist development, the promotion of investment, product development, among others.

It is an honor to be part of the team of the CTPR since I returned to the Island in February 2017. The opportunity that extended to me at that time to be part of the historic moment for Puerto Rican tourism, exceeded all my expectations and challenges faced as well as the achievements in this period have been historic.

I feel honored and committed to the governor and the people of Puerto Rico. I will continue working with the same level of passion and dedication, now and always.

"I appreciate the tireless work that Campos has done in these past months, leading the Tourism Company in times of great challenges. His hard work and experience have been important in the rapid recovery that has taken the tourism industry on the island after the onslaught of Hurricane Maria, "said the first executive through a press release.

Campos is the interim director of the CTPR, at the moment. His appointment now goes to the consideration of the Senate.

Previously, the official worked as assistant director and marketing director of the CTPR. He also led the recent design and implementation of the Puerto Rico destination recovery and commercialization plan.
