Tourism in Mexico could reach in the next years between 9 and 10 percent of the Gross Domestic Product (GDP), that is, "of every hundred pesos that are produced of all the values and services in the economy, ten must come from this sector, of that size is the importance of tourism in the country, "said the Secretary of Tourism of the Government of the Republic, Enrique de la Madrid Cordero.
He recalled that at the beginning of the current administration, tourism represented 8.4 percent of GDP, and today amounts to 8.8 percent, "it seems little, but it is to raise forty cents in four years, so it is very likely that this industry should represent in not many years between 9 and 10 percent. "
During a working meeting with hotel industry employees in the destination of Punta Mita, in Nuevo Vallarta, Nayarit, the head of SECTUR, said that tourism is a very large sector of the economy and "it is a sector where Mexicans have done very well, we went from the 15th place in the reception of international tourists to occupy the sixth place last year, with 39.3 million tourists who came to Mexico from abroad. "
De la Madrid Cordero indicated that this means more employment, new development opportunities for Mexican families and "that is why in Mexico we care about tourism, for what it is capable of generating, it is one of the sectors that creates more jobs with decent wages. "
The Secretary of Tourism said that these achievements are the result of the implementation of public policies in coordination with the three levels of government and industry players, for this reason, he acknowledged the service providers and operators for their commitment to make tourism one of the main engines of the country's economy.
The head of the Sectur highlighted the commitment of the federal government to public policies of sustainable tourism, "we want to preserve the environment and therefore we have established high standards of conservation of destinations, because it is a sector in which Mexico competes with the world and today we are at the forefront. "
In this sense, De la Madrid Cordero highlighted the notification of the International Jury "Blue Flag" where he awarded Mexico the "Blue Flag" flag to 53 beaches and two Marinas, for the 2018-2019 season, which places our country in the first place in the American continent in having such distinctive sustainable beaches.
It is worth mentioning that Tourism Secretary Enrique de la Madrid, during his work tour held meetings with workers of the tourist developments of the hotel chain Riu, Iberostar and Gran Palladium, located in Punta Mita, Nuevo Vallarta, state of Nayarit.
