Riviera Nayarit tourism recorded revenues of USD 200 million and continues to grow

Due to large investments of global brands the options for travelers of this growing segment of the market are expanded

 

In 2017, the destination experienced a successful year in terms of tourism, with record revenues and occupancy and several launch real estate developments. The trend continues, as several recognized hotel brands are scheduled to debut with properties in the destination until 2020.
"Riviera Nayarit is a destination like no other," said Marc Murphy, CEO of Riviera Nayarit Convention & Visitors Bureau. "Our versatility and distinctive appeal have resulted in the recent success of our destination, from the tourist city of Nuevo Vallarta to the historic town of San Blas, the celebrity paradise of Punta de Mita, the Mecca of Sayulita surfing, and all the others" , highlighted Murphy.

2017 on review
In 2017, tourism represented an incredible economic boost for the destination generating almost $ 200 million in revenue. Riviera Nayarit maintained hotel occupancy above 80 percent throughout the year, reaching 87.4 percent in July. The four-star properties reported occupancies above 94 percent, which accounts for the positioning of Riviera Nayarit as a luxury destination.

Among the most significant openings of the last year is:
In February, the new Krystal Grand Nuevo Vallarta debuted, a 480-room luxury resort, all included in Nuevo Vallarta. The hotel also offers the largest convention center in the city, and can accommodate up to 1,000 people.
In December, Grupo Autofin Monterrey inaugurated the Grand Sirenis Matlali Hills Resort & Spa, a paradisiacal resort located on top of a mountain in La Cruz de Huanacaxtle.
Marival Group also expanded its offerings in the area with MozzaMare Casual Beach Gourmet, a luxurious beachfront experience created for guests of Marival Residences Luxury Resorts.
"The newly opened resorts coincide with the superior standards, synonymous with Riviera Nayarit and have been well received by visitors," said Murphy. "We are now waiting for a broad list of new developments that will continue to drive the region, with projects that will debut in the coming months until 2020," he added.

What is expected for 2018
The second half of 2018 will welcome a renowned luxury hotel: Costa Canuva CIP is an ongoing development project that will eventually be home to five new hotels, adding more than 7,000 rooms to the destination and with the first Fairmont property in the region, scheduled to open this year. The coastal community will have a village on the beach with 2,500 residential units. In addition to a golf course designed by Lorena Ochoa and Greg Norman, Costa Canuva will offer more than four miles of coastline and pristine beaches.

2019 and beyond
For 2019 another exciting year is expected in the destination. Grupo Vidanta will open the first Cirque du Soleil theme park (Cirque du Soleil Theme Park) in Mexico, an immersive natural and water park that will offer night shows and capacity for up to 5,000 spectators. Rosewood Hotels & Resorts will debut with Rosewood Mandarina that will offer 130 rooms, suites, villas and common areas with a decoration inspired by the local prehistoric cultures of Huicholes and Coras.

The second stage of the Grand Sirenis Matlali developed in front of the beach will also be inaugurated adding 140 suites, an Iberostar property with 300 rooms in Litibú, and two properties in Punta de Mita, including the ultra-luxurious Auberge Resorts Collection, Whispers of the Heart and Conrad Hotels & Resorts redesigned the old La Tranquila Resort, Conrad Playa Mita.

In the last quarter of 2019, One & Only Mandarina will feature one of the world's first collections of One & Only brand residences, One & Only Mandarina Private Homes, also inaugurating One & Only Mandarina Resort, Rosewood Residences and Rosewood Tangerine, in addition to the world-class Mandarina Polo and Equestrian , full of polo grounds, dressage and jumping fields, stables and much more.
