The first electric route in Latin America was born in Uruguay

The route, which runs from Maldonado to Colonia, can be traveled with peace of mind for anyone in an electric car, since there are already several recharging stations along the way

Thinking and preparing for a sustainable present and future, Uruguay innovates once again inaugurating the first Route for Electric Cars in Latin America. The route, which runs from Maldonado to Colonia, can be traveled quietly for those who are in electric cars, since there are already several recharging stations along the way.
The UTE - state electric power company-, implemented new electricity charging points: in Montevideo and Punta del Este and until 2019 will install new recharging stations; the next will be affinities of May 2018 in Rocha. The new stations complement those already existing in Colonia del Sacramento, Rosario, San Jose, Carrasco and San Luis International Airport, making it possible for the visitor to complete the journey from one point to another.

The service is offered at the ANCAP (company responsible for the supply of fuel in the country) positions located at a distance of approximately 60 kilometers on routes 1, 101 and Interbalnearia.
Nowadays it is a free service for the tourist, requesting the loading card in the corresponding station. Meanwhile, Uruguayans who use electric vehicles have a card with which they can unlock the loaders installed in service stations. Then, through software linked to the card, the cost of its collection is added to the bill of the state and eventually in the future, a similar system could be extended through a credit card for tourists. In addition, Montevideo has taxis and electric buses in the area of transport, adding to the changes in the national energy matrix.
