The Mayor's Office of Medellin and the Bureau report that during the first semester of the year 63 events were captured for the city
The Mayor's Office of Medellín and the Bureau report that during the first half of the year 63 events were captured for the city, which represent a historical figure that exceeds by 80% the highest recorded during the same period of time: 35 events in 2015 It is also highlighted that 42 of the events are international in nature and will attract approximately 25,000 attendees from Brazil, Paraguay, the United States, Spain, the United Kingdom, Estonia, Finland, Malta, among others.
With this figure, 70% of compliance with the goal established for 2018 of 90 events has been achieved; Likewise, to date, 79% of the goal of the four-year period has been met (307 events), which still has a year and a half to complete. Additionally, it represents an important growth in terms of attracting events to Medellín, since in 2008, after the first six months of the year, none had been captured and today, 10 years later, 63 are reported.
More than $ 27 million dollars of economic income is estimated to be received by Medellín once the events between this year and 2020 are completed. In addition, they will be attended by approximately 37,300 international and national attendees.
"The tourism of meetings is one of the big bets for Medellín, of which every year we report better results, between 2007 and 2017 the growth in attracting events was 500%. For this reason, from the Mayor's Office of Medellín, we are working more and more on the development and implementation of strategies that allow us to increase the number and quality of the events that the city hosts every year and that are in keeping with the tourism we are building: responsible, sustainable, competitive and transformative "Manifestó María Fernanda Galeano Rojo, Secretary of Economic Development of Medellín.
The education sector leads the number of events with 25, followed by the corporate with 18; both segments have led the trend in 2016 and 2017, representing approximately two-thirds of the total number of events each year.
"We want to continue positioning Medellín before the world as a destination for meeting tourism worldwide for several reasons: one is that travelers who visit us for events have an approximate cost of $ 250 dollars per day which positively impacts the economy of the city; On the other hand, attracting events means that people who might not have visited the destination for other reasons, know about it, live experiences and are spokespersons for more people to visit us, "stated the Executive Director in charge of the Medellin Bureau, Clemencia Botero Fernández.
