The Costa Rican Tourism Institute (ICT) will launch an application for domestic and foreign travelers whose first stage will provide advice on security. The goal is for the 'app' to be ready for the start of the high season next December.
This is one of the comprehensive measures released this Friday in the Presidential House by the Minister of Tourism, María Amalia Revelo, and the Deputy Minister of Public Security, Eduardo Solano.
It is part of a series of actions on tourism security that has accelerated the administration as a result of recent acts of violence, seeking the involvement of institutions, private companies and citizens in general.
In the activity, the leaders reported that the National Commission for Tourism Security (CONSETUR) will outline the investment plan of $ 1 million per year for the next four years that the ICT will allocate to tourism security through an alliance with the Ministry of Public Security.
The CONSETUR is made up of the Ministry of Public Security, the Judicial Investigation Agency, the Attorney General of the Republic, ICT, and representatives of the United States Embassy, the National Chamber of Tourism (Canatur) and the Guanacaste Chamber of Tourism (Caturgua) .

Measures announced

New app
The ICT will implement a work route so that this application can be running in December, at the beginning of the high season. The application will be free download for both devices that have the Android operating system and for phones with iOS. Orient the tourist in security matters, as well as itineraries, suggestions of the most striking spectacles of nature, among others.
"In subsequent stages you will have security over dangerous currents of each of the beaches of the country and the possibility that the same bathers warn about security risks," said Minister Revelo.
In addition, it will include embassy information, links to other useful apps such as earthquakes and websites with services such as the Meteorological Institute.
"Updates and improvements will be implemented throughout this Administration," said Revelo.

Preventive training
The ICT committed to train 2,000 tourism entrepreneurs in the next six months to incorporate prevention strategies in their businesses (hotels, transportation, restaurants, tours), as well as in their communities. "The goal is to double this figure by the end of 2019," said Minister Revelo.
The work will be carried out in close coordination with the Ministry of Public Security, integrating the extensive training and prevention experience that this institution has.

Tourist Police
The Deputy Minister of Security reported that it will be reinforced with personnel from this security corps and that, at the same time, mega-operations will be carried out in some of the most visited tourist sites.
In qualified cases that the Tourist Police require, the ICT will support infrastructure and equipment in an inter-institutional action with Public Security.

Bell
This is an awareness campaign with a gender perspective, which will include among its objectives a reminder to the public that security is built together, will emphasize the respect and dignity of women, call to take care of each other and also to the tourists who visit us.

Congress of Tourist Security
It will bring together experts in the field, national and foreign, to share success stories, exemplary and inspiring for the Costa Rican tourism sector.
