Atlantis Bahamas launches sea turtle release program

Atlantis, Paradise Island, the lush seaside resort located on Paradise Island in The Bahamas, continues to provide guests with unique marine experiences and experiences that simultaneously inspire, restore and focus on marine conservation, research and education. Along with the birth of the first sea turtle hatchlings of the year of the complex (50 in total to date) and the corresponding release of the offspring in the wild, the resort has started its annual turtle program for the guests.

Release of pups
Each year, green sea turtles lay their eggs on the nesting beaches of the Hibiscus lagoon. Once they are born (during the end of the summer and the first months of autumn in the Bahamas), guests can sign up and help the team of Atlantis Aquarists to guide the offspring to the sea, at dusk. The team of marine experts from Atlantis studies the species extensively and chooses to release the baby turtles within 24-48 hours after the turtle's birth, as it is the best way to ensure that the animals adapt quickly to their condition. natural ocean environment. By launching programs like this for guests, Atlantis hopes to continue to understand and care for the population of green sea turtles in the wild, which are endangered species.
Participating guests can see the behind-the-scenes work of the complex's marine team, dedicated to caring for sea turtles and the wide variety of marine life that lives on the property (from an educational description of the female turtle nesting process, until a tour of the fish hospital, where the animals are treated by in-house veterinarians).

Sea turtle adoption program
In addition to the releases of the newborn pups, the resort also offers guests the opportunity to adopt a juvenile sea turtle (2 to 3 years old) and help free it in the ocean. The guests choose a name for their new sea turtle and join the members of the Atlantis Marine Team in "The Sea Keeper" (private boat of Atlantis) for an interactive snorkeling experience at the turtle launching point, where participants can swim with your turtle in its natural environment. At the end of the program, guests receive an official adoption certificate and photos of the special events of the day.
