Francisco Javier García, Minister of Tourism of the Dominican Republic, highlighted the progress made to promote religious tourism in the country, and valued the achievements of the last six years, among which the arrival of almost 36 million visitors during that period.
He said that tourism is one of the brightest points of the current government management, which is evidenced by the generation of US $ 35.979 million.
The official said that, in these six years, the tourism industry created 122,270 new direct jobs, going from 201,235 in 2012 to 323,595 in 2017.
In a press release from the Ministry of Tourism (Mitur), it is indicated that in the balance sheet of his current management at the head of the Ministry of Tourism, Garcia added that 11,215 rooms have been built in those six years, going from 66,044 in 2012 , to 77,259 in 2017, "without counting the number of new hotels that will be built in 2018".
This information was made known by the Minister of Tourism during a meeting held in his honor, in the Sisters Barefoot Monastery of San Francisco de Asís by residents of the Los Delgados community in the province of La Vega.
This community, together with the towns of Santo Cerro, Rebaloso, La Antena, Loma de los Angeles and Guaco La Lomita, celebrated the first meeting of the inhabitants of these demarcations, dedicated to the Minister of Tourism, Francisco Javier García, for his contributions to this region. and his effective work at the head of the tourism institution.
García, who attended this recognition with his family, thanked the community and showed the pride of having been honored from an area of great significance and value in the historical and religious and where the project Senderos de la Fe .
The owner of tourism, who also has been declared Adoptive Son of the province of La Vega, said that along with the promotion of ecotourism development in this region, the Senderos de la Fe project as a complementary offer will attract thousands of tourists and will strengthen the values of the Dominican family.
In this sense, the referred communities carried out different cultural, social and religious activities that concluded with the celebration of a mass and later a lunch served in the same play of the community of Los Delgados.
