LATAM recognized as the leading airline in America for its sustainability practices

For the fifth consecutive year, it has been selected to be part of the "World" Sustainability Index of Dow Jones, the most respected international guide

LATAM Airlines Group was named, for the fifth year in a row, in the "World" category of the Dow Jones Sustainability Index (DJSI, for its acronym in English).
The DJSI category "World" is composed of 10% of the companies of the Global Broad Market Index of Standard & Poor's (S & P) with the best performance in terms of sustainability, based on an independent annual evaluation of economic, social and environmental criteria. LATAM is the only airline group in the Americas with a presence in this category.
"Companies must think and act in a sustainable manner to deliver value today and in the long term to their customers, shareholders, partners and the communities where they operate. For LATAM, this means promoting sustainable tourism and supporting the humanitarian response to natural disasters in the region, among other multiple initiatives, "said Enrique Cueto, General Manager of LATAM Airlines Group. "Being recognized worldwide as one of the leading airline groups in this category, for the fifth consecutive year, is the culmination of our commitment to incorporate sustainable practices in every aspect of our operation."

Some of LATAM's recent sustainability initiatives and milestones include:
In 2017, LATAM transported 438 tons (equivalent to nine cargo planes) in humanitarian aid materials and more than 2,000 people to support disasters caused by forest fires in southern Chile, floods in Brazil and Peru, the earthquake in Mexico and the impact of the hurricane in Puerto Rico.
In total, more than 1.1 million people in Latin America benefited from the social actions of LATAM in 2017, including the sustainable tourism program Cuido mi Destino, in which volunteers help repair or rebuild tourist sites, restore green areas and Promote local culture and traditions.
In 2017, LATAM reduced its total carbon footprint by 2.46%, registering a reduction of 13% since 2012, and LATAM Airlines Colombia achieved an operation with zero carbon emissions in its domestic flights.
LATAM has reduced emissions from its operations on land by 36% since 2012, reaching land operations with zero carbon emissions in Colombia and Peru. Having a zero-emission land operation is an objective of the Group that it expects to reach by 2020. Proof of this is that LATAM Airlines Chile recently signed a contract to use 100% renewable energies in its corporate building and maintenance base in Santiago as of November.

Criteria measured by the Dow Jones Sustainability Index
The Dow Jones Sustainability Index evaluates companies based on economic, environmental and social criteria, including: corporate governance and compliance, social reports, human capital development, efficiency, customer relationship management, and environmental assessments.
The evaluation system adopts a logic of excellence that selects each year the companies with the leading performance in their respective industries.
As part of its evaluation of corporate sustainability, LATAM achieved a score of 100% in 'efficiency' as well as the highest scores of the airline industry in 'brand management', 'codes of business conduct' and 'environmental policy and management of systems'.
Manjit Jus, Director at ESG Ratings, RobecoSAM, said: "I congratulate LATAM for being included in the DJSI World. Companies competing for a prized position in the DJSI challenge themselves to continually improving their sustainability practices, and we are pleased to see that the number of companies that commit to achieving positive and measurable impacts continues to grow. "
This year, DJSI invited 3,504 companies - covering 60 industries in 47 countries - with the best financial performance measured by market capitalization in the S & P Global Broad Market Index to participate in its annual corporate sustainability assessment. Of the invited companies, 317 (including LATAM Airlines Group) qualified for the Dow Jones Sustainability Index "World".
