The Peruvian Nikkei food restaurant Maido was the winner, followed by Central, both located in Lima

Peru once again demonstrated the importance and impact of its cuisine worldwide: nine of its restaurants were recognized in the list of The 50 Best Restaurants in Latin America 2018.

The presentation event of the renowned list, which brings together the opinions and experiences of more than 250 experts from the restaurant industry in Latin America, took place in the city of Bogotá. The award ceremony, which takes place once a year, was attended by chefs, restaurateurs, sommeliers, influencers, journalists and gastronomes from around the world to celebrate the gastronomic diversity of the region.

In this edition, 9 Peruvian restaurants were positioned in the list. This year was not the exception and for the second time in a row, Maido was chosen as the best restaurant in Latin America; while Central was in second position. The winner of the night was Peruvian Pía León, to be recognized as Best Female Chef of Latin America 2018. As is known, the award-winning has worked along with her husband Virgilio Martínez in the kitchen of Central and Mil (Sacred Valley, Cusco), and recently opened its own restaurant, Kjolle, in the bohemian district of Barranco.

Undoubtedly, Lima remains the gastronomic capital of Peru thanks to its diverse amount of land and sea supplies. The raw material and the products that are harvested in Peruvian lands make it possible for the country's consolidation and culinary positioning to be increasingly recognized worldwide.
