SKY lands in Rio de Janeiro and becomes the first low cost to arrive in Brazil

The CEO of the airline, Holger Paulmann, said that they hope to continue consolidating in South America and strengthen a long-term relationship of trust with Brazil, Argentina and Peru

With the presence of the Minister of Transport of Brazil, Valter Casimiro; the director of the National Agency of Civil Aviation (Anac), José Ricardo Pataro; and the CEO of the RIOgaleão airport, Luiz Rocha, SKY inaugurated its operation in that country, becoming the first low cost airline that lands in Brazilian lands.

Thus, from today SKY will operate permanently routes to Rio de Janeiro and Sao Paulo, while Florianópolis will be seasonal and will be active until March 2019.

SKY flight 620 landed in Rio de Janeiro at 12:15 hrs with 184 passengers on board; among them, the CEO of the company, Holger Paulmann; the sales manager, Jaime Fernández and the operations manager, Werner Geissbuhler.

"The inauguration of the routes to Brazil is a great milestone for our operation, since it is a very attractive market for the industry. In addition, we arrived with our low-cost model, which has allowed us to consolidate our position as the best low cost airline in South America and we hope that all Brazilians can reap its benefits, "said Paulmann on landing at the airport RIOgaleão.

Meanwhile, the Minister of Transportation of Brazil, Valter Casimiro, said that "Together with the Anac and other aviation agencies, we have been encouraging the participation of airlines that lower the cost of flight per user. On this occasion, I want to congratulate SKY Airline and mention that Brazil is willing for more and more people to fly to our country and vice versa to improve tourist exchange between both countries. "

During the opening ceremony of the flight to Rio de Janeiro, Paulmann announced that SKY hopes to continue consolidating in South America and strengthen a long-term relationship of trust with Brazil, Argentina and Peru.

"The rapid growth we have had for three years - when we announced our conversion to the low cost model - and the successful implementation of it have encouraged and advanced our international projection plans", emphasized Paulmann.

He also stressed that the new destinations to Brazil are in response to the requirements and demands of SKY passengers. "In summer we know that the beaches of Brazil are one of the favorites of the Chileans; while in winter, the snow becomes a great tourist attraction for Brazilians, who in 2019 will be able to come and enjoy it to Chile flying in low cost format ".

The new routes will operate with five weekly frequencies for Sao Paulo; four for Florianópolis; and six for Rio de Janeiro. In addition, these flights will be operated with the A320neo aircraft, recently acquired by SKY, and with a greater seating capacity than the other aircraft of the airline.
