US Department of State confirms that it is safe to visit Quintana Roo

Today, the US Department of State updated the information on the Travel Advisory website for Mexico, and confirmed that the state of Quintana Roo has no travel restrictions and it is safe to visit. In addition, as has been the case throughout 2018, none of the tourist destinations in the State of Quintana Roo have travel restrictions. These world-class destinations include Cancun, Playa del Carmen, Cozumel, the Mayan Riviera, Holbox, Isla Mujeres, Puerto Morelos, Bacalar, Tulum, Mahahual and Chetumal.

The state of Quintana Roo remains in the current classification as "Level 2", same as it is since the implementation of the new system of travel recommendations in January 2018. This level 2 classification, accompanied by the message "exercise greater caution "is the level at which most of the countries and tourist destinations in the world are located, including the United Kingdom, Germany, France, Italy and China, among others.

"We respect the work of the US Department of State in advising travelers and will continue to support the transparent exchange of information on how travelers can have a safe and enjoyable experience when visiting Quintana Roo," said Dario Flota Ocampo, Director of the Tourist Promotion Council of Quintana Roo. "Our incredible destinations and the friendly and dedicated people of this beautiful state, expect to welcome travelers every day."

The state of Quintana Roo and its destinations continue to be one of the safest, most welcoming and friendly places in the world to travel, receiving more than 17 million international tourists in 2017. From January to September 2018, the number of international tourists has increased by 5.8%, confirming the continued popularity of its destinations among international tourists. In recent months, several international airlines have also announced new direct flights from 11 cities in the US. UU., Canada, Colombia and Brazil to the international airport of Cancun.

While the state of Quintana Roo is working to address local problems of violence and crime, it is important to note that the vast majority of incidents involving local residents occur far from areas frequented by tourists. When traveling, whether abroad or in your hometown, it is important to be a smart traveler and follow best practices, avoiding areas that are not frequented by tourists, find and follow the advice of locals and avoid risky behavior.
